So now I am really off on Thursday to Paris. I just wanted to thank all of you who have posted info.

on everything there. Michael, your blog is brilliant. And so are all the comments from everyone -I won't write names so that I don't forget someone.

We only have 3 1/2 days so we are planning

museums (Louvre,D'Orsay and Pompidu centre) for the first 2 days when it will be light rain and

Versaille on Sat. Then we have until Sun. night to wander and see whatever else we need. It is

my daughter's first real indepth trip there.

Let you know how it went...and thanks again

I don't remember if I told you, but if you buy a museum pass at your first museum, you can then skip

the lines and go to the group entrances along with all the tour busses.

It's a huge savings in time alone, and in your case, with so many museums planned, a savings in money.

My other bit of advice, if you're anywhere near Notre Dame, is to skip the cathedral and go Saint-Chappel, the King's private chapel, with the most amazing stained glass in the world. It's a few blocks west. It is no longer a church property, but a museum, and not free like Notre Dame, BUT:

My usual tour is to go to St. Chapel first, wait in the relatively short line, buy the museum pass, then skip lines from then on. The museum pass is even good at Versailles. You can also buy the pass at RER (express subway) stations.

If you do have time to visit Notre Dame, take a quick tour through the beautiful interior, then, if you're up to it, climb the North tower. The view is amazing.

I'm so jealous--it's been almost 4 years, and I've gone past withdrawal and moved into the stages of grief.

elaine, have a wonderful trip but try and wear very comfortable shoes while visiting the Louvre.

It's HUGE! Also, expect to get a chill up your spine (like I did) while viewing the Mona Lisa embedded in 6 inches of glass from afar.... Awesome!!

Enjoy and please tell us about your trip when you get back!

What is this draw? For me it's been 11 months and some days and I'm ready to get

back there however.

I think it's an illness with me.

Make some good memories Elaine.

Not an illness at all, but an appreciation for a great city, with such history, accessible by foot,

great food, museuns, picnics, the river, the left bank, Bon Marche Epicerie.....

Sniff. Sniff.

Me too. All over the keyboard. I miss the duck confit, (but maybe that's not what you meant.......)

Oh, yeah! And foie gras, sorry, FloriSandy, but oh, my goodness, foie gras & duck confit. Obsessing

...and if you can't get to Paris, get to Pittsburgh's Heinz Chapel

It's a mini-version of Sainte Chapelle on the University of Pittsburgh city campus, built by the Heinz (57 Variety) children to honor their parents.

I grew up thinking everyone had buildings like this around. Of course, I also grew up with steel mill soot clogging my lungs on a daily basis.

Oh you're right, Nic, and I make it often, but there is something about the duck over there

that I can't quite duplicate. Maybe it's just the ambience.

So Sandy is safe for now....

Yeah, differences all right

the food they eat, the air they breathe, the spices used, etc. The duck is different indeed.

And all the duck I find here in NZ is a wee bit small, doesn't make very nice confit smileys/frown.gif
