walked through the kitchen and saw a light on and turned off the switch not thinking???? or checking why this light was on at midday...but it was on as it was reminding me that I was trying out a slow cooker for the first time, plugged into the same switch...some 2 hours later I come in from the garden to see how the slow cooking is going and the dish is just warm.

Now I think the chicken is cooked through but the fava beans weren't yet soft so should I put the cooker back on high for and hour or two or just put it back on, on low for this hour or two....?

I say turn it on high until it simmers so that everything will be brought to a safe temperature.

Then remove the chicken, it it's done, and turn to low until the favas are done, adding the chicken back to reheat at the end.

If the chicken will be out of the pot for more than a couple hours you should probably refrigerate it.

hmmmm... I wouldn't risk it...

I would take it all out and bring it back to a very high heat very quickly in a pan or in the oven, then cook a good 20 mins on a high heat - it may ruin your dish, but it was off the heat for 2 hours, it could have reached that level of temp where the bacteria have a good old partay!

Thanks guys, I reheated it all quickly in a pot on the stove and then...

popped it back on high in the slow cooker....we have not been sick this am so it must be fine but the dish ended up a bit stewy!!! OH well, I have to say that this oval slow cooker is wonderful. I plan to do a chicken in it soon, any other ideas...?

I made a big pot of stuffed peppers in mine. lovely.

and Olga's T&T sweet and snappy crockpot stew is so good. beans and ham, pea soup, crockpot cassoulet are some of my favorites. bbq short ribs and sauerkraut and pork are so good too.
