So what are apples selling for, per pound, where you live?

U-pick is about 32 cents a pound, store-bought is at least double that. I think I saw Honey Crisps (top end) for 6 lbs/$9. Most are about 6 lbs/$4-5. We had some hail damage in June, so many of them are pitted and kind of scared, but not bad.

'Lots of pie baking in the weeks to come!

I am visiting Santa Fe and the local apples are around $2/lb and have just started.

the weather is getting fall-ish and it snowed in the Cristos mountains the day before I arrived. Today some clouds rolled in and we had hail and rain up on the ski hill (I was at 10,000 Waves Spa!!!). Anyway, it's really good for the apples- a red delicious variety that is almost black red, but with a pleasant sweet acidity missing from grocery store models. Found a few pink ladies too. Their farmers market is really nice but small compared to the bounty of my "SF". But then we don't have croissants stufffed with freshly roasted green Hatch chiles and cheese before baking. Let me tell you, my toes curled up in joy after one bite..... Love it here.

$1.49 any variety already picked at Lull Farm in Hollis, NH. I chose Northern Spy and Macouns

I was amazed at the size of Northern Spy's. They didn't need lemon juice to prevent them from turning brown. Plus they held their shape and I added enough flour so I didn't have a runny pie.

I'm sold.

If anyone is interested, here is the website of where we picked and they ship

I hope I'm not violating any advertising rules here, but it's a fun site to look through, anyway.

I saw a big sign saying that they ship, and the rates didn't seem that high to me. Seven pounds for $22, and they said they do larger orders too. The place is really fun to walk through too... they've got everything in there!
