and a picnic in the woods if the weather holds out here. Taking r-w-b potato salad and cold tuna pasta salad. Just a few friends/family, 6, maybe 7 of us.

Trying to finish a quilt. Need to finish sashing & borders.

I also wanted to get some inside painting done, but managed to get a bad Summer cold or something just in time for the long weekend. I'm telling you, I can't seem to think of one low carb comfort food besides chicken broth...

Beef stew? (a little flour, but that's not bad) Chicken cordon bleu? Broccoli in cheese sauce? 'Hope

you feel better soon. Maybe your body needs a few carbs for a while, while you heal?

A little local history here. Did you know that Washington DC was surrounded by 64

forts to protect it during the Civil War? Not me and I have lived in this area for 50 years! Today we took a bike tour given by the Nat. Park Service of Fort Dupont in SE DC along the Anacostia River. There are about 8 forts along the river there all with views of the city. At that time a canon had the fire range of 5 miles so these forts were all about 5 miles from downtown. Many of these forts are connected by bike trails today. As they were earthern forts not much is left of them. We could see the earthern walls built from the digging of a dry moat surrounding the fort. The munitions were buried in the middle. Beautiful day for a bike ride and a bit of history.

Then we went into the city and saw groups of Rolling Thunder starting to arrive for the ceremonies. And a tour of the Botanical Gardens next door to the Capitol. Bento Boxes at Teaism were lunch. Great day smileys/smile.gif

I'm just tellng myself, no mashed potatoes, no mac & cheese, no noodles or pizza

Just had a piece of pork roast & some squash with butter & parmesan. I think I'm getting past the worst of it. I've been weighing myself on Monday mornings & this will be a month, so I don't want to blow it now.

Loved the history lesson! Made The Baked Brownies the correct way this time

Well, seems I *would* need to give them a second chance, that's only fair right?

Honestly? They tasted the same...

Good, but surprised I didn't notice a difference. I was expecting them to be sweeter or something. Guess because I was off by the same amounts in flour and sugar before (1/4 cup) it didn't really change much.

I didn't have dark chocolate cocoa (thank goodness), but man I'm paying for eating these - my heart is just pounding from the caffeine. I should've made some that were not dark chocolate based (really, I should know better) but I wanted to taste the full on version.

Right now I'm arguing with myself in my head about giving them away (I really should) or keeping them (brownies!).

Do chicken broth. Add some coconut milk to it, cilantro, green onions,

some really hot sauce or chiles, and you will be set. I also used to add some lime or lemon juice to it. You can sip away on that and it is basically no carb.

Weekend six...

1. Birthday party on Sunday so I put together a do-it-yourself banana split kit. Made a pint each of strawberry sauce, caramel sauce and dyslexic sauce. That plus maraschino cherries, mixed nuts, sprinkles, waffle cone bowls and bananas. At least I bet no one else gives her bananas for her birthday smileys/smile.gif

2. Work party on Saturday to do retreat crafts so I volunteered to feed the troops. Quiche, savory citrus salad (Cooks Illustrated Jan 2013), watermelon ands hits chocolate coconut brownies.

3. Got home from that and had to do 48 strawberry cupcakes for a birthday party Sunday (thanks for the strawberry party cake recipe Maria!).

4. Little tired after that...getting old is not for sissies...so I threw together caprese burgers and called it dinner.

5. Church, then hightailed it home to make strawberry frosting for the cupcakes. Six left when the frosting ran out so hubby is happy. Me, I think cake is only a vehicle for frosting.

6. Now I have to get a batch of cookie dough made for 45 cookies on a stick for retreat gifts. The birthday party dinner is this evening so at least I get a break from cooking.

My weekend ONE

I only did one thing this weekend: I tidied and cleaned my greenhouse. Then I sowed seeds for spinach, ruccola and a couple of other salad greens.
And then I had a glass of wine. Ok, maybe two...... smileys/smile.gif

That's pretty much it.
