Soaking pinto beans

My aunt sent me a bag of pinto beans and I'd like to use them in PatNoCal's Amazing Chile. These will need to be soaked, probably overnight, but I've never done this before (usually I just use canned beans). Does anyone have any advice on how long/how much water, etc? Thanks!

I don't usually soak mine, but just wash and then cover with water by several inches overnight,

drain and proceed. You can also "quick soak" by bringing to a rolling boil, removing from heat and letting stand covered for an hour before proceeding.

Pinto beans are soft enough that they don't really need soaking, but if you have the time,

soaking ahead will reduce the cooking time, and I think it helps keep the beans whole during cooking, because you'll be cooking them more gently.
