Some help needed with the Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy rice cooker

I got one for Christmas and the instructions are rather, well "fuzzy"!

Tonight I am cooking 1 cup of Jasmine rice, and I understand that I use the clear plastic cup that came with the unit for the one cup measure and put that into the cooker. Then I add liquid, (water or broth) to the one cup line for white rice. I think I have this part straight.

Now I want to add mushrooms, shallots, and one leek, however instructions say not to mix it into the rice but to place on top. I want a sautéed taste of butter and evoo in my veggies, so I am sautéing them first, and then mixing into the rice after it is cooked. I don't think it will taste the same however. Any ideas from experienced Zojirushi owners?

I don't have a Z, but I do have a rice cooker.

I saute the veggies right in the cooker. I just turn it on, add a little olive oil and the veggies. Then I stir in the rice and saute it a little bit, add liquid and cook until the cooker goes off. My cooker is very easy, it has cook and keep warm settings only. In fact in order to turn it off, I have to unplug it. Let us know how it turns out.

I like your method, Dawn... never thought of that. Karen - be sure to rinse your rice well first!

The instruction book mentions washing the rice, which I am wondering why

when the instructions on the rice package does not suggest to wash rice first. Why is this necessary in a rice cooker?

Karen, you definitely want to wash the rice. Wash until the water runs clear. What brand

of rice are you using? My bag of Niko Niko Calrose Rice (my favorite everyday brand) says to wash the rice.

Rice has a lot of starch on it. If you don't rinse it first you're likely to get pasty rice
