I have spending a lot of time with kids ranging in age from 17 mos to 12 years old. I have been looking for some recipes that they will like and that will be fun to do with them. I have found these Kool-Aid recipes that look like fun. I have made the snowcone syrup. It is much less expensive than the commercial and the flavors are fun. We made watermelon-cherry, and it was good! I am going to make the jelly tomorrow with the kids, and then we will have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches made with it. The jam recipes are actually a little more appealing because they will at least have some nutritional value to them. They have an Invisible Kool-Aid that we will make and I will let each child choose what color they want to make "their" jelly. Any ideas or crafts that you have done that are fun, please post. Thanks!

This is kid-friendly and 38-year-old friendly too. REC: Pudding in a Cup

I found this the other day when I was snooping around on the Old Gail's with a HUGE chocolate pudding craving. (I was all out of that stuff I keep in the pantry for emergencies such as this.) I made it and was really stunned at how good it was and just as easy as the cook-it-stuff in a box. (I don't do instant pudding.) I used bittersweet chocolate to stir in at the end for extra chocolate-y goodness.

ARTHUR SCHWARTZ'S PUDDING IN A CUP

1 Tbs. cornstarch

2 Tbs cocoa

2 Tbs. sugar

3/4 cup milk

1/4 tsp vanilla or orange zest

extra chocolate bits (optional)

In a 12 oz cup mix cornstarch, cocoa and
sugar. Blend in milk a little at a time.
Cook in micro 90 seconds or until it starts
to boil. Can add chocolate bits while still
hot. Cool and serve.

I was wandering around the bookstore last
month and came across this recipe. I went
home and made it from memory, using skim
milk. . I doubled it and it was enough for
three servings. I've made it several times
and it's so easy and good!

Thanks Carianna! I always have the ingredients for this in my pantry...

and I like the idea of microwaving when I have an audience composed of the age groups that I have right now. It is easy enough to do on the spur of the moment. I am going to try this for my chocolate deprived hubby, using splenda. I have a feeling he will enjoy this more than the kids! Thanks!

Let's try this again. REC: Kool-Aid Snowcone Syrup, Kool-Aid Jelly and Kool-Aid Jam...

I made the jelly today with a 3-year-old, and it was fast enough to keep her interested and it turned out pretty good, well good for watermelon-cherry Kool-Aid. (smile) The kids loved it in their peanut butter sandwiches. It really turned out a pretty blush pink color. I will stick with my homemade strawberry jam (no pectin), but it is fun for the kids and you do not end up with so much that will end up throwing it away. The snowcone syrup was good too.
