Two questions:

1. How old are these guys?!
2. How is having your mom make your dish not considered cheating?! (Maybe next year, the moms should attend...) smileys/wink.gif

The Viennese dinner party sounds glorious. I hope there will be photos...

Last Christmas, same thing happened at my office. One Filipino woman in her 30's,

her dad got up early to make a roasting pan full of handmade egg rolls, and three other dishes for our department potluck. Her dad is a 1st generation immigrant and puts taking care of his family his highest priority. I love this...from time to time, he'll stop by her apartment while she's at work, peek in her fridge, and prepare all the food in it!

two answers

1. They're in their 30's. Natives of India, now US citizens. Both have parents visiting for the holidays to see their kids and grandkids. The Moms are here to cook and spoil.

2. I'm sure neither one of these guys knows anything about cooking and if the mom's weren't visiting, their wives would have made their dishes to bring to the potluck. Frankly, I'd much rather have Mama's authentic cooking anyday! smileys/smile.gif

Unfortunately, our German colleague was unable to attend. But his mom is visiting too, so guess what??? LOL

The rest of us made our own food.

Sounds alot like my father-in-law. He's Filipino and he was a cook...

...in the US Navy for 20 years.

The custom on board ship was for the Captain to have his own cook, and the rest of the crew would be fed by the rest of the staff.

Most of the Captains preferred the Filipino cooks for their meals. They took the most care, and they were the best instinctive cooks.

A few years back my inlaws came to Phoenix to visit. My wife and I were at work, so we made arrangements for them to let themselves in. When we got home, the kitchen was filled with wonderful food my father-in-law had prepared, using only what we had on hand.

He's an amazing cook, and an even more amazing Dad.

Michael

Oh, I see.

I thought we were talking about guys who lived with their mothers past the age of 30... But visiting family--that's different. They definitely turn up and put on a show!
