Son's 40th birthday on Wednesday. They are doing a surprise

hot air balloon ride with friends on Wed. and a

surprise party for about 50 on Thurs. First dinner here, so they can set up at his house and then the surprise.

I am making for the surprise

Hot Olive stuffed cheese balls

Olive and pesto pinwheels

Merry tomatoes (tomatoes marinated in vodka)

maybe a savory biscotti - if time allows.

There will also be lots of cheese platters and

a restaurant friend is supplying sushi.

Then I am doing 4 pastas - 2xbaked macaroni with

zucchini and 3 cheeses

and a vegetarian baked pasta with mozzarella and a bit of gorgonzola. New one for me.

I didn't make lasgne cause everyone already knows it.

The best is the cake plate. I decided to make all

his favorite cakes -

carrot cake, white mountain cake, Maida Heaters

cheesecake, tiramisu. My daughters is making

chocolate chip cookies and whoopie pies. And the

birthday cake will be the John Thorne cake aka

death by chocolate cake in the form of a clown.

The clown cake is the first cake I ever made for him since his birthday often is exactly on our Purim holiday which is costumes for the kids.

So I am pretty busy but on schedule.

 
Do I understand you correctly that you are serving him dinner at you house before all this?!

That is one lucky son.

 
We had to have some way to get him out of the house for several hours.

I am only serving soup and will order pizza for the kids. He will be disappointed with me (but will never say a word!) until he gets home.

Oh and we are having a duplicate clown cake for the kids who are not coming to the party.
