Soup Swap went great!

I made a version of Sopa de Albondigas to swap with others - not Michael's though, because I wasn't making the carnitas to go along. It still turned out really yummy.

I also made a Chipotle Pork Chili with Beans to serve the guests and served cornbread with it. The polenta plan went out the window when I picked up the leave replacement at school. Need to keep my life simple when I'm teaching full time.

I ended up with the following soups for my freezer:

Northern Louisiana Shrimp Gumbo

Taco Soup made with Elk Meat

Root Vegetable Soup

Purple Cabbage and Sweet Potato Soup w/Coconut Milk and Peanut Butter

Corn and Bacon Chowder

And back to work tomorrow I go with all my lunches already done for me! smileys/smile.gif

So glad it went well! I want to do this next year.... Still thinking through logistics; because

all of my neighbors would come (they would assume wine was involved), ie many different soups.... but what a fun theme to get friends together!

Glad you had a great party! And happy that you are shoveled out w/ the snow!

Well, there was definitely wine involved here. smileys/smile.gif

But it really doesn't matter how many come (as long as your house will hold them) because you just leave with however many containers of soup you brought.

So let's say 20 people come. They each bring 6 1-quart containers. Everyone puts all their soup out and you have a "soup talk" where everyone tells about the soup they brought - why they chose it or what's in it, etc...

Then everyone draws a number out of a hat. #1 goes up and picks a soup... then #2... all the way to #20.

Then you have round #2! Everyone draws a numnber again (so different people have a shot at picking nearer the front) and you go again. When you're done, all 20 people will have 6 1-quart containers of the soup they chose. Some soups will go faster than others. If you brought some awesome delicious sounding soup it might not make it past the first round because 6 out of the 20 attendees chose it in the first round.

It even works if someone's recipe doesn't make 6 1-quart containers. Let's say that one person only brought 4 containers. They just stop after round #4. No biggie.

The biggest logistical thing is keeping the soup cold. I told everyone to bring some sort of transportation cooler so that frozen soups would stay frozen while we sat and drank wine. smileys/smile.gif

Sounds like alot of fun. We have not had soup weather here in a while, so thinking this could be

next year. Our neighbors are always looking for "excuses" to get together. They know I am not a sweet eater, but a soup/chili swap party would work! Thanks so much for the idea and sharing your insight.
