Speaking of fake "rapturous eye-rolling tastings" on FoodTV, what was your first REAL

rapturous moment over something you've made?

My "first" was Alice Medrich's chocolate buttercream. I think my eyes blinked in shock. A moan may have escaped my chocolate covered lips. I was shocked, then stunned that I, a mere me, could create such wonderment.

(I was reminded of this moment a few days ago when I made a 4x portion of her basic vanilla buttercream...1/4 of which was converted to bittersweet icing. I think I may actually enjoy the pure vanilla more now.)

I don't recall ever having a rapturous moment over food I've eaten

When something is excellent, I usually say, "ummm, this is really good!"

I do recall a dinner we had in Hawaii at the Inter-Continental Hotel. It was so good, we went back the next night and had the same thing. However, I could not tell you what it was, except I vaguely remember some sort of flat bread and spread as a starter.

Sadly, nothing I've made in the last four years springs to mind. But I do have a vivid memory of

Grasshopper Pie at the Velvet Turtle (Orange County, CA) from when I was about six. smileys/smile.gif

And a coworker once made me venison (prepared by her dad) in a wild berry sauce that was the BEST OFFICE LUNCH EVER. smileys/smile.gif

I've been in a cooking rut for about a year (maybe four or five), so everything tastes blerg. Maybe if I didn't do all the cooking at home, I'd feel differently; it was certainly more fun when I didn't do it every single day...

The first time I made my favorite sandwich: Peanut Butter, Bacon & Marshmallow Creme on Toast.......

Being from Philadelphia originally, I grew up
on Fluffernutters, which is a Peanut Butter
and Marshmallow Creme sandwich (and if you're
a purist, it's on Roundy Bread).

Somewhere along the line, I had heard that Elvis
was fond of Peanut Butter and Bacon sandwiches,
which I thought sounded interesting, so I tried
it, and I liked it.

One evening, I decided to combine the two. I'm
not exactly positive, but I think that there may have
been a good amount of tetrahydrocannabinol
in my system.

Food of the Gods!

Sort of spoiled for choices, here--we usually go out for Chinese, Indian, sushi. But thanks. smileys/smile.gif

It sounds good to me now. I haven't been in a cooking mood lately. What is Roundy bread?

Roundy Bread is something that I haven't seen since I was a child in Philadelphia........(more).....

It's plain white bread, only the slices are
round instead of square.

They used to advertise it during Romper Room.

(Anybody remember the Romper Room Lady, and
the Magic Mirror?)

The first time I made Shrimp Etouffee from a cooking class I took.

It was so simple... but so wonderful!
