Speaking of neighborhood kids, (post above), does anyone have a fun, creative idea for celebrating

100 days of school. Our neighbors know I enjoy cooking. The school celebrates the 100th day of class, by having all of the kids bring in a craft/show and tell that either has 100 pieces or in the shape of 100, etc. Any ideas? I was asked by a 5th grader who also enjoys cooking, and feel pressure to help her out with something as she would describe as "way cool"

Help is much appreciated!

Barb

If it doesn't have to be edible... how about this?

In Martha Stewart Living's Feb. issue, there is a craft idea for making felt fortune cookies. They would be inexpensive, maybe do them in the school's colors, and it would be a quick knock out of a craft for 5th Graders. Divide 100 by the number of classmates.... The one who wants to help could have her classmates come up with ideas, ahead of time, to make the world or their community, a better place, then gather them and cut them into fortune cookie strips. The teacher could open them as needed and initiate quick discussions about making the ideas work, why they are valuable, etc. This would generate 100 discussions over time, and get the class settled & focused (without them realizing it!!!). Ooooh, the students could actually draw a cookie from the bunch and lead the discussions!

Make the classic rice crispy treat recipe, but when the mix is still warm and pliable, ...

...form it into a big "100".

Or, do as we have done, cram it into little plastic funnels that are about 2 inches across at the widest point. This will give you little funnel-shaped treats that look just like big chocolate kisses. Wrap them in foil, just like kisses, and make little strips of paper on your computer with a message in small font, "what's 100 days without a kiss?", or something equally as cute.

Good luck!

Michael
