Speaking of peach pie, I made one yesterday and…

It was so pretty. The crust came out perfectly. I brought it to the neighbors to share and I had high hopes for it because Whole Foods said they were tree ripened peaches, and I could actually smell them. Such high hopes!

However, woe is the person with high peach expectations.

The peaches were just OK. My neighbors thought they’d died and gone to heaven, This is because they’ve never tasted a decent peach. Those of us who have, just wallow in the sadness. Normally I never would have bothered with a peach from a grocery store, normally I go to the farmers market and taste test all the peaches for weeks till I find the perfect ones and then whether or not you were planning to make pie that was when you will make pie. Now my local farmers market is closed. The only other one I know of that would have the really high quality farmers isn’t too far away, but parking is bad so I haven’t tried. This is also because tasting Anything at the farmers market is now forbidden and I’ve seen my share of poor peaches at the farmers market as well. So I gave whole foods a try. Yet I still weep for the good peaches.

So sorry yours are scarce. I got beautiful Monroes this week. Made a peach clafoutis

Saturday which was delicious and a good use for almost any fruit!

The first peaches I bought this year were at a Walmatr Neighborhood store. . .

It is a grocery store version of a grocery store and they carry things I had only read about.

Any way, saw the peaches. They looked goldy-ruddy from a distance/ When inspected up close the skin around the stem was yellow and the fruit was NOT rock hard. Best of all was that I could smell sweet, aromatic peaches *through* my mask. I bought a bunch and had a VERY nice, flavorful pie--and none of them rotted out before I got to pie-ing them up.

I regret not having bought more for some jam or preserves!

I have one of those stores, I may look there.

I just hate paying and going through all the work to make a pie that’s sub standard.

My neighbors have only ever had grocery store peaches, so they loved it. I had a second piece today, but am considering tossing it. It just doesn’t have much flavor. And I think I have most of my taste back, so don’t think it’s that.

Maria, come to Redding this Saturday, and go to Farmers Market at

our City Hall. Great parking, even some shade. Tons of peaches, the O'Henry's are here now. They open at 7:30 am and folks start lining up for one booth at 7 am. Not me, I go to another There are also fruit stands on the rd from the North into Chico CA which have peaches, and I bet the Chico Farmers market is loaded with them, as well.
