What is a crockpot?? I blush to ask, but everywhere on food sites there is talk about crockpots, and I jhave no idea what it is.

Slow cooker? Ceramic Roman pot? Not?

 
Yes, it's a slow cooker, but...

there are different kinds. Mine are one peice with the heating coils in the sides. There are also some pots that sit on a separate peice where the heating coils are like a hotplate.

It is an electric slow cooker. Generally, there is a lift-out insert that is made of crockery (ergo the crock pot name) although now days they can be made of different materials. Do you have these small appliances in So. Africa?

less (that's tough to say) than the style. the best of all is the fact that now i know 3 generations of your family.

i think it's prolly time to quit thinking of the saffron pear tree (to me so beautifully evocative before one opens the book) as a lesser work.

I think it's a terracotta pot with a lid. You soak it in water for half an hour >>>

then you add the ingredients and slow cook it in the oven until done.

I think it's also called a Röhmertopf** or Schlemmertopf (or something along that line. Those are German brands of terracotta pots but like a gazebo, people over here talk about Röhmertopfs - or Schlemmertopf - when they mean a teracotta pot with a lid.)


** The spelling is probably wrong. My German is horrible so if you ever meet a German and need to ask about those pots, make sure you say Röhmertopf really fast and cover your mouth at the same time and you'll be fine! *LOL*

 
Well, I'll see if I can bump up the 100 character limit. No promises though...

It's gotta be done by a programmer and my programmer is currently engaged in, um, profit-making programming-type things. This will be low on his list for the moment I'm afraid.
