Going to the Greek Festival bright and early tomorrow morning (I'm not, but DH is half-Greek) - feta salad, spanakopita, kourabiedes, cinnamon baklava, and folk dancing are on the menu

It's raining lightly, but that's ok, the lawn needs it

Weeding out the herb garden for the first time in a while; yikes those sumac trees grow fast don't they

I have a few large strawberries back in the herb garden, but didn't get out there soon enough for them to spread this year (

Lottsa chives, though

Stale donuts (cake-type) dunked in lemonade taste pretty good when you're too tired to bake that lemon cake you were thinking about making but didn't because you were weeding out the herb garden all afternoon between rainstorms ;o)

My Saturday Six

Wow, I actually made this list on a SATURDAY

Need an idea for pasta pie/bake whatever to feed to adults

Were going out tonight to where we had heard there is a great chef...then we heard the place had closed down(in a difficult location to get to) now we hear he is at another new place that opened last night so we are going there.....may this not change, he has quite a good reputation!!!

Wish that I did not drip so in this heat. Can't we just head to the mountains in summer.

Hope my DD is loving being a stewardess on the 165' motor yacht she joined this week in the Med/Greece...haha...it is only a summer job, then back for her 2nd last year of architectural studies.

Loving that my DH is actually building a roof and extra space over the garbage cans and gas bottles.....with little help from anyone...He is such a STAR!! It is a 9' x 15' structure...also will house the hurricane shutters off season!!

I have a lot to be thankful for.

we are thankful for your bright, insightful, and entertaining posts.always make me smile and/or think!

My Saturday Six

Our neighbor's wife passed away last week. We celebrated her life yesterday at a beautiful service officiated by their son. It was wonderful.

At the Farmer's Market this morning, I found baby butter lettuce heads, baby romaine, baby Frisee, nectarines,a type of perfectly, round yellow squashes with green circles on each end.

The sun is shinning after days of thunder and lightening and rain...not complaining.

Trader Joe's opened on May 1st in our town and I am having a ball learning their products. It is so nice to go into our local store and take my time....knowing that DH is at home and not sitting out in the car.

The neighbors barking dogs are finally quiet after I sent a letter suggesting a dog trainer who could help them with the problem.

Tomorrow I am trying a new muffin recipe using fresh rhubarb, lime, and cardamom.

Oh Waaaaaa! I just spent hours on the phone calling every place

I could think of that might carry rhubarb....NONE!!!! I have been obsessed about that recipe since I saw it. Please tell me how it is...or maybe....lie to me about it? ;0)

Mes six du samedi

Today was the first warm (shorts-worthy) day we've had all year.

Spent half the morning crawling around the garden weeding. Used my son's rollerblade knee pads.

Took out the patio furniture (well, made my kids do that) and had lunch al fresco (dinner too).

Made a lovely little salad for dinner, inspired by something I had at a restaurant last week, it was simple but turned out yummy.

Brainstorming two new cookie recipes for a cookbook I've been asked to contribute to.

My hip hurts like hell, and I don't have hip problems. NOW what's wrong?

My Saturday Six ....

Got fresh cabbage at FM to make a wild yeast bread starter and some sauerkraut

Actually got almost everything on my shopping list in one trip

Made the KA Cheese Burger Buns for the ultimate burgers I made tonight - venison/beef tenderloin trimming patties, Tillamook cheddar, country ham, bacon, fried egg, dill pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, chili onion straws with Belgian style frites (sort of - got them a little too thick)

Trying to learn not to be a busy body - neighbors fire alarm went off when I was outside picking burrs off the dog (he chased a mother turkey through our woods) and waited for someone to turn it off and it never did so I drove by to make sure which house it was and called the BFD/BPD to report it telling them it didn't look like anyone was home and that no one was answering the phone. THE HUSBAND WAS HOME THE WHOLE TIME - boy do I feel stupid!!! But how could he have not done something about it screaming that whole time - I live on almost 6 acres so they aren't that close and I could hear it. I mean if it's going off - at least call the FD/PD so that if your alarm calls them or a neighbor calls them - they will know it's malfuncioning and then get the freaking thing turned off!!!

Posting pix of my ultimate burger to make my SS jealous - I invited him to supper but unless it's when he wants something, he won't come over. He's trying to perfect his burger and had the idea of putting onion straws and latkes on them.

Enjoying the dill pickle juice now that the pickles are gone - I hid it so the other SS wouldn't drink it before I could get to it.

No, you did the right thing. Better safe than sorry. Can you imagine how you would've felt if

someone had been in there, passed out and unable to get out and you hadn't called? You did the right thing, don't feel stupid.

My Sunday (by 15 minutes) Six

Went to the post office -- at 11 AM it was already 95 degrees!

Drove around to a couple of yard sales -- not for the stuff (though I did pick up a box of new authentic luggage stickers from vintage hotels for a dime) -- what can you get for a dime these days? who even says "dime"???

Stopped at a new farmers market and got some local organic beef to grill out today over mesquite. It was delish with just jack cheese and fresh ground pepper. Must go to Central Market tomorrow for more peppercorns. Bulk spices there are so good, so fresh, and so cheap!!!

Shredded the satay recipe and the recipe for the peanut sauce I made on Friday -- blech!!!! I have to dig through "the box" for the 3x5 card that has Chin's recipes from 1972. Authentic Campbell Road (Kuala Lumpur)!

Read a good book! Nevada Barr's FLASHBACK. Started out on the patio -- 100 degrees by then, gave up in about 15 minutes and hunkered down in my chair.

Spent some time on Skype with my son and granddaughter -- beautiful 3 months old!

My Saturday Six (and it's still Saturday night!)

I got over a migraine without too much trouble, haven't had one in a long time, yay!

Today was International Knit in Public Day so I combined farmer's market fun with knitting. My sock is coming along nicely, and the blueberries were perfect to snack on - no mess!

I made a wonderful dinner for myself, see my post down there somewhere about the salmon BLT, and managed to write a blog post about it too!

I spent the afternoon rewriting a blog post I did about Ethics and the Environment for the president of the American Ethics Institute. He liked my article a lot and wants a "review" for their web site! I'm hoping this might lead to some work, or perhaps a job interview with one of their board members companies - lots of heavy hitters in the community there. How exciting, no? And it's all due to my friends here who have encouraged me to write, and especially to my pal Sharon who organized the event. I really need to cook her a dinner. Maybe a salmon BLT!

Tomorrow is my friend's daughter's debutante ball (she's 15) and I'm hoping my ankle will permit me to wear my pretty strappy gold sandals, at least for a while! I can't wait to see this young lady in her dress, I've known her since I was three and she's the closest thing to a niece I will ever have.

I know that's only five things but wow what a weekend and it's only Saturday night. I'm off to eat a biscotti now and call it a night.
