Summer Savory

Because I have heard TV chef's say how wonderful this is, I planted one plant this spring. It is so bitter that I have not found a use for it. My plant is lovely and full, and has flowered. All through the growing season, I kept sampling the small leaves - always bitter. What dishes compliment this bitter herb?

I had the same experience with it Karen, I couldn't stand it,

I pulled the plant out and have never grown it since. Some people like it, but I sure didn't.

I've grown the "winter" (perenniel) savory and it's very pungent, but I didn't find it bitter

Definitely not one to munch on! I've seen it called for with other strong flavors--olives, anchovies, garlic etc.

It loses its bite when it's cooked.

I have had the same experience as Joe- I noticed no bitter taste at all. Must be a different variety

I can picture this, though I usual season beans with sage....

the savory would give them a kick. Beans are sooo good and heathy, but soooooo bland!

It's "good" in green beans, and yes, definatley has to be cooked. Not one of my favorites, either!
