Summertime, I fall in love with the Pacific Northwest all over again! Last weekend I took a trip

Oh my. I am trying so unsuccessfully to move out to there. This doesn't help my frustration Traca

What a glorious day to remember!

Now you've made me home sick.

I spent summers in Seattle and on Bainbridge growing up and my son was born while we were stationed in Bremerton. The summers are truly amazing up there.

But I still like my desert, especially in the winter!

Marg, I didn't know you were looking to move here! Please do keep me posted

as things develop.

On that Examiner site, I'm compiling a list of great specialty shops, resources, etc. (See links for "Getting the Goods.") Hopefully that will be helpful when you move into the 'hood!

Yes, in the winters, I day dream about deserts and tropical beaches! This year is

especially going to be tough. I missed most of the summer working on a major project at work and now, sadly, it looks like fall is now upon us already....

Seattle has changed a lot over recent years. There's tons of construction going on and areas of the city are being remapped entirely (Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen bought most of the land near Lake Union and has grand plans for that section of town.)

Bainbridge is just lovely, isn't it? Whenever I spend time over there, it's like being on vacation...and the beauty is, it's just a ferry ride away....

Traca, do you know the police chief there? We worked in the same office as he was in training here.

Small world.

The Seattle Police Chief? I met him on a couple occasions when I was working on the WTO conference

but I haven't seen him in years...

I've got friends in the local political offices. I'm sure they all know him. smileys/smile.gif

Traca, thanks for the post!

I added a comment...I'll be in Seattle and will also drive north to Vancouver, this coming week.

Hey Judy...I hope you get a chance to visit our farmer's markets while you're in town...

be on the look out for the Steve Goat Cheese vendor--fresh made cheese from Nubian goats.

And Jeremy from Foraged & Found edibles. He's always got exciting finds.

Have a blast! I *know* you'll be eatin' well! smileys/smile.gif

I'd love to! We had a passing acquaintance at the time and I'm sure he won't remember me...but

I thought he was a good guy. Is he a food lover too? smileys/smile.gif

Traca, I have no clue! The officer that was training him kept him really busy and mostly out of the

office. I would bet that he loves food, though, he was very young when I knew him and it seems to he gained some weight while training, so probably he does....smileys/smile.gif

He was always running in and out; I don't think he reminds me even though we were in a small office building together.

2 years ago I found out that now about 8 years ago our big boss at the time died. He was the best boss I ever had. He was a dear friend as well. I called Gil, as I'd heard he was in Seattle. I left a msg. with his secretary that the boss had died but he never called me back.
I figured he knew about the death before I did or he didn't remember me well enough to call to comment, or busy smileys/smile.gif

If I talked to him today we'd have nothing to say to each other; we only shared a great boss!

A great boss is priceless....(more)

Gil wouldn't remember me either, but he's got a very distinctive look so of course, I couldn't forget him.

When our paths crossed, I was in a pretty unique position working for the Steering Committee for the World Trade Organization (WTO). I worked directly under the person in charge of all the events that were open to the public and often reported on her behalf at Steering Committe meetings and such.

I met with Gil, his team, and the Secret Service RE: security for our events (delegates, Senators, Congressmen and other dignitaries in attendance.)

Believe it or not, this was one of my internships in college. So when the protests and riots broke out, I'd manuver through my peers out in the mob outside, then suddenly flash my staff credentials and pass through the police line.

Long story short...somewhere I've got a photo of Gil in full riot gear from the WTO...and what the press dubbed, "Battle in Seattle."

There's a movie coming out about that time and Charlize Theron is in it. I missed it, but they just did a big preview at the Seattle Film Festival. I wonder who will play Gil????

You're very right about that distinctive look! I've often wondered what he looks like today. We

never hear any Seattle news here, let alone a picture of the police chief!

If you ever get a picture, you'll have to post it for me.

If you ever think you'll meet him again I'll give you a couple names that would connect us in that office that he MAY remember...

Thank you, Traca. He looks the same, I'd say, I always saw him smiling, here's very serious. I

am amazed at all of his accomplishments and accolades. Wow! That's wonderful!!!

Thank you so much for this link!

Yes, he's approachable and yet very serious. I'm surprised he's not running for an elected office.
