1. Fun spur-of-the-moment dinner with Richard and Tim on Friday night! I am officially addicted to Hummus Kitchen's falafel.
2. I ended up going with a corn, avocado, tomato, and basil salad for the picnic on Saturday--it was a big hit. It'll go into regular rotation, but I think with scallions instead of red onion. And I would like to add bacon. smileys/smile.gif
3. Since I had somehow expected the picnic to involve burgers/brats/etc. of some sort (which it did not, alas), we came back and made a beeline for the butcher--and then made burgers. (This marks the second time in eight years of marriage that I've thrown down the burger gauntlet--usually, J. finds them one of the least appealing aspects of American culture--and it was worth it.)
4. We went here for drinks with friends last night. Lovely small French bar/restaurant--and, shockingly in this town, the tables are far enough apart to actually hold a conversation.
5. Everything we ate today was skillet-based: French toast with strawberries, bananas, and mangoes; Denver omelette for lunch (with roasted potatoes); sautéed shrimp with garlic and cherry tomatoes. I'm not proud that it was all fried, but none of it was bad (just bad for you, I guess)...
6. Sorta-Food-Related: While writing this, I somehow got distracted and ordered a toaster oven online. (Our old baby-blue retro one that I hiked 2 miles uphill to some expat's villa to buy is still in Prague.) If anyone has a Black & Decker Countertop Toaster Oven TRO480BS and likes it, please let me know. smileys/smile.gif (If you have one and hate it, then I guess that's useful, too!)
Hope you all had a good weekend...
