I kid you not...we pay $8.99 a pound for these at our local health food store. I order 5 pound boxes of raw ones each year from a CA almond farm (~$5 a pound), but we've been buying these seasoned ones at our local store.
After the last batch I got to thinking..."these can't be THAT hard to make?"
So I googled, found a recipe, and baked some last night.
Wa-la! I'll be saving $4 a pound from now on...
1 1/4 cup (6 oz) of raw almonds
1 Tbl tamari
1/2 tsp kosher salt (I only used 1/4 tsp since the tamari is already salty.)
Put almonds in shallow bowl and sprinkle with tamari to coat. Let marinate for 2 hours, flipping them around every 30 minutes or so.
Preheat oven to 330 degrees.
Put on cookie tray, sprinkle on salt and bake for 10-15 minutes.
I baked mine the full 15 minutes. They get crunchy with a sharp tamari tang and are almost impossible to stop eating.
Oh, just think of how many more raw almonds I'll be buying with these savings...
Good website, by the way.
