Changing careers....

I was corporate for 20+ years then and then for 10 years ran on online party/decor store. But between my mom's Parkinson's worsening and her dementia seriously worsening, my hands have been full. Went to Florida 8 times over the winter to help my dad (he did have 7 days a week help too) and have been with them at least 3 days a week now that they are back in Ann Arbor. Four weeks ago mom fell and broke her arm just below her shoulder. She uses a walker so this has rendered her immobile on her own. Dad now has 24 hour care in their house in addition to daily support from my sisters that live in Ann Arbor and me coming in frequently.

Hubby was hospitalized for 12 days with a bowel blockage in May (horrible experience due to an inept doctor for his first three days - Jerry became much sicker than needed because of that. I spent 21 hours a day at the hospital for much of his stay). During the hospital stay is when he was to start 8 weeks of radiation therapy at U of M hospital an hour away; it is now put off until end of August. Despite not having a prostrate the cancer came back but, so thankfully, very slow growing and only in one place.

Anyhoo....can't run a 24/7 online shop that requires daily customer service ; I've always prided myself in the level I give (calls returned within 1 hour, et)c.. But the demands on my time are just too much. So I transferred the store to my long time graphic artist; she's a great gal, and said good-by..

My husband had planned to retire in Ann Arbor and it is quite plausable that retirement may come earlier than planned. When we do I would like to sell my challahs (I already have some customer's there) and the occasional cake or three.

The graphic artist will pretty up the facebook page in a few months when I've thought this through a bit more.

Anyway - thanks for your support.

sending you a HUGE hug, my dear friend, loving wife and dutiful daughter.

I can see the link, by the way. Lovely cake!

Oh Deb! So very sorry to hear

We are moving closer to you and your Dh. When you have a free moment, please come visit and I'll make us lunch. Colleen

The very best of luck with your new venture, Deb!

I am so sorry to hear how much you are going through. I do hope that things go better with your husband - what a dreadful experience. Your cakes look so beautiful, and I know they taste even better, so I am sure you will have no problem with sales. Congratulations on your positive attitude.

Big Hugs Deb. While I am not in that situation yet (and obviously everyone is unique), I admire

your family values and moral compass to focus of family. I sadly, know friends that would not give up their career, time, etc. Your mom and dad did a great job! I wish you much strength and find the little things in life to appreciate with your family during this time. Big Hugs, Barb

Wow, you have been going through so much,

I hear you on the hard decisions but you can't spread yourself that thin. I hope your family feels better and my heart is with you about your mom, my mom has dementia too. It's really hard. ((hug))

Mine, too! And also your Dark Chocolate Cheesecake. Oh, yum! Yr 4th of July cake is spectacular!

Aw...thanks so much.

I just bought a good camera and took a short craftsy class on taking cake pictures (hence the chocolate cake and 4th cake have better pictures) and I plan on adding a cake a week or so:)
