Testing Mac n' cheese with ready-made alfredo sauce? Result: It works.

I can do lazy with the best of them. To speedy up the creamy mac n' cheese process, I used Buitoni's refrigerated "Alfredo Sauce".

Alfredo Sauce

1/4 box of dry ziti

1/4 (from 8 oz box) of Velvetta

1/4 of 8 oz block of Cheddar

Coarse Dijon mustard

Cayenne pepper

Cooked 1/4 box of small ziti, drained and put back into the hot pot. Scooped a few heaping tablespoons of sauce onto the hot pasta. Added 2 oz of Velvetta, 1 oz of Dubliner cheddar, a good sprinkle of cayenne and a tsp of coarse Dijon. Stir to melt and blend.

Buttered a 6" square Pyrex dish and put in half the pasta. Layered 1 oz of Velvetta and 1/2 oz Dubliner. More pasta and finished off 1/2 oz of Dubliner and a good sprinkle of panko crumbs.

The broiler was already on so I popped the dish below the broiler pan.

It was bubbling in less than 5 minutes and remained creamy for the whole meal. Unfortunately.

(I say "Unfortunately" because I went back for more THREE times.)

(Just reheated the last few tablespoon in the microwave. No problem with the sauce breaking or cheeze oozing fat.)

I guess that "unfortunately" and the three trips back for more means. . .

either you really liked it or you were really hungry!

Man, I hate when stuff comes out so good, or hits a craving so well that I end of scarfing waaaaay too much.

My condolences! smileys/smile.gif

Hokay, I know you liked what you made, did you like the base flavor of the Buitoni Alfredo sauce?

Hmmm, and looking at the Buitoni site, I am surprised to find. . .

So FEW ingredients in their "light" Alfredo sauce. Mebbe I will try it--Gotta save them Weight Watcher points!

Yes, m...the "unfortunate" part was making this when I was hungry. Faced with hot and creamy pasta

my will-power wimpers like a little girl.

I also broke the cardinal rule of "THOU SHALL NOT SHOP WHILE HUNGRY." Came home with four different cheeses AND the cream sauce.

I'm my own worst enemy.

But the cheese calls so loudly from the shelves, it would be rude to ignore it.

I need to feed a colleague some major calories. She has so much trouble in her life (her husband can't eat any more) that I think she has stopped eating and is quite literally skin and bone. This looks like the right sort of calorific comfort food that I can take her for lunch. Thanks for testing it!

I think so, Marilyn.

She likes the candy I give her at Christmas. That would be very sweet of you. I wonder if her husband would be able to eat it. He can swallow soup.
