"Thank you again" to FinerKitchens, Mimi and her software guru for hosting this great forum.

Gee, I don't think I've done anything lately to deserve that! But you're welcome! And...

I'll pass on the thanks to the FK people. Unfortunately Tom my programming guru is working for another company now but hopefully we'll get a new one soon.

Me too, anytime I visit the old swap, which is less and less, I am tremendously grateful that ...

this amazing community didn't just slip away.

Thank you, Mimi, and Finer Kitchens!

Y'all can add my tremendous gratitude to the collection... we never>>

would've been the same without you, Mimi!!

Couldn't check in for 3 days, and that was too much...

I just got my computer back after 3 days in for repair, during which time I felt like I was going through a torturous withdrawal -along with a serious case of Cabin Fever. I don't want to imagine what not having this site at all would be like. Thanks from here too Mimi.

I LOVE this place. Everything I know about cooking

I have learned from you people. I'm so glad we got this forum so I can continue learning. (I hate what have happened to the old Swap and I never go there anymore).

Thank you a million for everything you do and have done for us, Mimi smileys/smile.gif

Hey Eva, how are your tomato plants coming along? (more, FRC)

For anyone who still has to plant, I just wanted to pass this along...

I was getting nervous because my tomato plants that I started from seeds were tiny little things, only about 3/4 of an inch tall, while the ones I bought were about 7 inches tall. I planted them side-by-side, and within 2 days (really!), the seed ones had grown about double their size. Now they are catching up to the bigger ones, and you really have to look twice to notice that those are smaller than the other ones. Looks like I'll have lots of tomatoes this summer!

The secret - told to me by a local landscaper - is fish emulsion. Brown, vile looking stuff, but it has no smell, after the first couple of minutes. You mix it 1 Tbsp per gallon of water. Not Miracle Gro, or any other commercial product, but fish emulsion! It works wonders! I use it more than the directions say (I rarely follow directions, after years of working in a lab where you HAD to follow directions completely), and I use the emulsion at half-strength every time I water them (every other day or so with this dry spell. They are growing like weeds. And now they are completely organic too )

My tomato plants are 3 feet tall now >>>

and flowering!

I cannot belive I started with a few small seeds just a few months ago.

I have just re-potted them into 2 1/2 gallon sized pots and I feed them with chicken manure pellets, so mine are 100% organic too.

I look forward to getting my first tomatoes - I'm really excited as I have never grown my own tomatos before. To be honest, I never thought I'd be able to grow them from seed but somehow, I did it!!!

I have also sown spinach and sugar snap peas and they are also growing like crazy.

I'm so happy to hear that your plants are growing well too. I have never heard about feeding the plants with fish emulsion before. I will have to look it up. Thank you so much for the tip! smileys/smile.gif
