Thank you all for the suggestions to help my sister gain weight, however

last Wednesday she told her husband that it was time and to call her brother. I was on a plane to Minneapolis the next morning, picked up my mom and was at the hospital at 3:00. Because of her tracheotomy she couldn't talk but she mouthed "I waited for you" At 4:00 she told her husband that it was time. The nurse came in and turned off the machines.

Every 15 minutes she was given morphine for the incredible pain she was in. After an hour and a half she looked at the nurse and asked why it was taking so long. Her pace maker prevented her heart from stopping. Eight hours later, a little after midnight, my baby sister, Colleen, died.

I'm sorry for going into such detail but it is cathartic for me. I will miss her so god damn much.

Oh Michael. I am so sorry. I do not have words to ease your pain, but will share one story, since

a part of your experience sounds similar. When my beloved pop-pop passed, he asked for me. Of course dh and I were there. He also had similar experience of turning off machines and waiting. He asked "why is it taking so long?" Also had morphine. Then, out of no were, a few hours later he said... "I know, Nanny is making herself look pretty and telling everyone I'm coming". I can't imagine your pain, but I do take comfort in believing she is in a good spot.

Big hugs,
Barb

Michael, I am so very sorry...... what a tragic end for her life....

I am sure you will miss her every single day, and the pain must be unbearable at times

I hope you can surround yourself with friends and family to help you go through this painful phase

Michael, I hope you will soon be able to reflect back on all the wonderful memories

from childhood to now that you and she shared.. Having siblings and being close to them is something I missed all my life. It must be so hard to lose them.

Michael, my sincerest condolences to you and your family. I can only

tell you what a rabbi once told me. If you keep her alive in your memories, she will be with you always.
