Hi guys,
I just wanted to let you know that I'm keenly aware that the swap archives aren't browsable. (You can still use the search though).
The background to this problem is that this particular forum software had never been used on such a vigorous forum as the FK Swap before, so we are kind of in the forefront of finding bugs in the program. When I was setting this up, this was truly the best threaded software package I could find that I could customize to be as close as possible to the format of the old forum.
The developer of the software is aware of the problem with our archives and is currently working on a new version of the forum that will address the archive issue, fix a couple minor bugs (such as the strange punctuation in the search results), and add some new features (such as the ability to edit the subject of your own post - I hope!). (Don't worry, it won't be a drastic update! I know better than that. ;o) ) I don't have an ETA for this but the developer was very helpful when we first set this up (with some special customizations) and he's responded very quickly when we found a couple serious bugs, so I'm pretty confident that it's in the works and won't be too much longer. On May 2 he told me "Hopefully, it'll be really soon!!"
Some of you may remember me talking about us making changes ourselves - "us" meant me and my programmer co-worker Tom, but unfortunately I am between programmers at the moment, so I am really dependent on the developer right now. I mention it for those of you with really good memories who wonder why I don't just have Tom fix it. The hazards of small business...
I just wanted to touch bases with you guys to assure you that I'm aware of the problem and that *I care* and am expecting some sort of resolution soon.
On a positive note, I've had good comments from the owners of FinerKitchens and from my boss, who are all pleased with the success of the forum and are keen to have it continue.
Cheers,
Mimi
