The Cook. The Thief. Her Husband. And their Robbery.

So sorry for your troubles but your opening isn't so cringe-worthy. I mean, who amongst us doesn't

enjoy a sausage every now and then? (Ahem)

Oh WOW! I'm so glad you are both OK. I can feel for you on the finger

print dust. My business was broken into one time and the dust stuff was on everything and it's a pain to get clean.
And on a side note...I was just going to post a Thank You. You are a gem!

OMG Marilyn that is quite a story. FWIW, look into getting a total home alarm system

we have had ours for over 25 years. We live in a nice area and many homes have been broken into over the years. The ones with alarms, and people who actually use them, have not been touched. One home up the street had a lot of jewelry taken, and the guy walked into the house right after the lady had left to take her kids to school. He took a pillow case and walked out with a ton of stuff right in front of the mow and blow guys. They thought it was just the laundry guy coming and going. Had she turned her alarm on, it would not have taken place.
Home burglaries have increased by 40 % in our area, and I imagine it is even worse in other areas. Too many homeless, and too many drugs, and too many inmates being let out for lack of funds.

Yes, it is a very unsettling feeling 2 know some stranger has been traipsing around your house &

rifling through your personal possessions. We've lived in this house since 1980 and have been broken into twice --both occasions occurred before the installation of a home security system -- but not once after we had our alarm system put in. Prior to both break-ins our house was locked.
First time the thief(s) popped open a patio door that had a broomstick wedged in its track in the family room--we always did that when we went anywhere, even just to buy a loaf of bread. They actually broke the broomstick in two from the outside(!) so now we use a 1.5" by 2.5" plank that is nearly 3 feet long. For our second break-in the burglar popped open and crawled through a small high window that went into our master bathroom. After the second incident, I insisted on a security system. It's one thing to have a ransacking while we were out of the house, but it really bothered me to think that some idiot might try breaking in while we were in our house.
As I recollect, the detective who dusted here for fingerprints told us that the powder used is actually a volcanic ash (or part volcanic ash), and it's the devil to clean up. They never caught our perps, but we've not had any more attempts either, and I'm sure it's due to the threat of having an alarm because some of our neighbors without have been vandalized. (I recognize that a security system isn't full proof, but it's better than nothing.) I'm so sorry your were broken into, but also very glad you were not home when it happened.

Glad all turned out well. Had a kind of similar thing happen a couple months ago

Luckily no broken windows or cut screens- but somebody wanted food out of the fridge and was looking for cash or something to get drugs with. Came through our house (left stuff out on the kitchen counter) then went across to another and broke in and stole cash and a laptop. They caught the bugger trying to trade the laptop for drugs. Leaves a vulnerable feeling for sure.

Nice! I'll be baking for the local cop shop as well. we set our new alarm for "away" last weekend

when we went down to the river cabin. If you set it for away, the motion sensors inside activate. the cats. forgot about the cats. they set if off 2 times, first time cops came because the dang Vivint guys got our phone number wrong, and their dang website was down so we couldn't get in to disarm.( would not recommend Vivint to anyone, but we were stuck with a dang contract.) we definitely owe them cookies

My daughter was burglerized yesterday. She left a flatpack of something she had just purchased from

IKEA as it was a bit heavy for her. She brought some other stuff up to her flat on the 3rd floor and got distracted. When she went down 1 hour later it was gone! She says, lesson learned. She Does live in the Crime Capital of the West Coast, Oakland CA.
Twice other times either she or her tenants found some guy inside their gates. So DH is going next Monday to install a lock on her gates. I think the neighborhood thieves were casing her place for a series of future heists.

Happened to me, I had just finished making brownies and took them

up the back stairs in the side yard up to my mom's apartment. I lived in the bottom of 3 apartments separated from the main building by the hill. My mom lived in the main building but both of our places opened to the side yard, nice and close but not too close!!

While I was gone, less than 15 minutes, a group of men broke into my apartment. I came down the front stairs from the outside of the building into my apartment and saw the inner door hanging open and a broken internal window. I stepped into the apartment and then realized all the lights were off in the rest of the place, where I had left them blazing, so I ran out and back to my mom's and called 911. The police came very quickly and discovered the thieves were in 2 groups, one group climbed up a drainpipe and broke the bathroom window to get in, about 15' from the ground. Another group tore off the siding in the entry room and then broke the internal window to get in and broke the inside door open.

The detectives dusted everything and found 5 sets of fingerprints and some of them were in the system. Hardcore scary men. I had to repaint the walls and the enamel, this was before the Mr. Clean magic eraser sponge, so give that a try!

The police never told me if they caught them, they stole some jewelry, a lot of my lingerie and my modeling book, which was irreplaceable. The detectives called it a home invasion sex crime because they found where the guys staked out my apartment. I moved shortly afterwards because they came back twice when I was home at night and tried to chisel open the back door, but I was armed and warned them and they left before the police came. What a nightmarish time. I live in a safer place with a nosy manager and lots of video cameras.

I called those brownies the 459 Brownies, haven't thought of them in years!!! The were good though, pecans and bourbon and caramel and drizzled with white and dark chocolate.

I did give some of the brownies to the detectives and they were so very kind to me. We have some great police officers here in San Francisco.
