Ah hah! Another opera lover! Heather, I've been attending the Met live HD performances at my

local movie theater, and never heard of Toi! Toi! Toi! until I heard it wished back-stage at these shows. What does it mean? Many thanks!

Thanks everybody (and Randi:)!

Left GM back in Nov. - been there (in a consulting capacity) since '91. Big change. Spent the last many years working in its 'web' space and SEO. Anyway - when I left I starting working for my friend's big favor site just to keep busy and just loved it. With her blessing I went a bit more upscale and in areas she doesn't really touch upon. Have tons more to load. Still consult too (www.optimizedusability.com) and work for her 10 hours a week doing SEO (search engine optimization). Don't miss my 2.5 hour commute, the ridiculous politics, etc. (although I do kinda miss the paycheck:)

I appreciate the support from you all - truly!

Deb

It's what they say in the opera world instead of "break a leg" or "good luck" - it's German (spit)

and for some reason they used to spit 3 times for good luck. Can I get a big ICK here? But now they say toi! toi! toi!

In the ballet world they say "merde!" which of course means sh**.

Who KNOWS why they do these things!

Fun with superstitions when I was at the Opera:
- cats are bad luck
- peacock feathers are bad luck
- never quote "the Scottish play", even saying the name is bad
- wearing of green on an opening is bad luck
- it's good luck to wear formal wear on an opening night, even the crew do it (those who aren't in the rigging, etc)
- it's good luck to have ice cream in the afternoon before an opening, one of my favorite traditions!

Enjoy the Met! I want to attend one of these days at the theater. Sadly I missed the Dead Man Walking showing. It was one of my favorites that premiered here, the one aria of the parents lament for their murdered children I still hear in my head.

Bravo! Wishing you the best of luck!!!

PS: Thanks for filling in the acronyms. I wouldn't have a clue what that meant.

PPS: LM is blocking me from viewing your consult site...I'll check it out from home.

Heather, my grandmother would never ley us have peacock feathers...

in the house because they were unlucky, and everyone laughs at me when I mention that! My mother danced - is it a general theater superstition? I was brought up on lots of theater superstitions. And my mom used to talk about the old Jewish women, I guess friends of my gran's, who spat three times to ward off bad luck. I sometimes find myself thinking it in my head, if you know what I mean.
