The reds/sockeye are finally here! my friends took in 120 fish by dipnetting yesterday. unreal.

and they called me with this exciting news as I was driving home from the dentist. their boat was loaded "to the gills" and all over the floor. It did not make me feel better. rats that I missed such a good day. I hope they took pictures. Too many to handle themselves, so they dropped them off at one of the processors to fillet and freeze. I hope to go out on Monday to get my 35. although, I'll never use that much. will give most away and send some home with my Dad. Dipnetting is till the end of July and for residents only. link is to the newspaper picture gallery of dipnetting from the shore. We do it from the boat. We're having sockeye for dinner tonight! We can't wait! In fact, I may just slap it on the barbie for lunch! I just paid $8/pound for my 2# fillet - on sale. They were $9 last week. Colleen

 
prices should come down in the next few weeks. honestly, cheaper to buy them!!

for dipnetting, a non-resident can be on the boat for viewing only---can't help in any way with harvest or transport or even steering the boat. It's really hard to just sit there and not help with the nets etc.

 
How cool is that???! You just dip the net, and the fish swim in??

There must be a TON of fish - so many people in the water, and they're all catching fish?

we filled the smoker 4 times, we filled the pressure canner twice(cans), vacuum sealed a ton

I'm tired---hardest working vacation ever, but I have a bunch of fish to send home with Dad---canned,smoked and frozen, and 2 huge frozen whole fish, and my freezer is still half full. I sure hope his bags don't disappear smileys/smile.gif
