The smell of Briami is intoxicating!

Weekend 6

Trying to catch up with my cooking TTDs this weekend. On the list are:
Deb-in-MI's roasted plum tomatoes - done!
Baby zucchini slices blanched for future batches of Ron's Meatball Minestrone - in the freezer!
Evelyn in Athen's Briami (w/an eggplant added) - almost done smileys/wink.gif
Zucchini bread - ingredients all prepped and ready to mix together once the oven is free (but still can't decide to go chocolate or not)
Barbara in Va's Salty Oat Cookies - later tonight
Meyer lemon limoncello tomorrow - my 3rd year using a combination of recipes with both Everclear and vodka. I plan to throw in peels from a couple of navel oranges and a lime, as well. Colleen

My weekend 6

1. made 1 hour chicken stock using chicken wings for a special dinner...

2. made the special dinner which was Poulet Demi-Deuil... roast chicken with slices of fresh black truffles between the skin and the flesh. Unbelievably tasty.... my first time using fresh truffles, which were a gift from a friend

3. today making a batch of broccoli coconut milk soup to have for lunch next week, should be enough for 3 meals

4. Made a nice pre=workout drink using my juicer that has been neglected for years. Very tasty, beets, carrots, apples and ginger. No extra sugar added apart from the sugar present in the beets.

5. Run 7.5 miles yesterday, still on track for the Big Sur 10.6 mile race in the end of April...

6. Gave two of our three dogs a bath....

Great weekend so far!

Sounds like a very productive weekend Sally. Have you been to the Big Sur area?

That will be a beautiful run that time of year, Is it along the ocean? What a beautiful view you will have!

About six times.. it's one of our favorite spots!

We drove through the route last time we were there, trying to figure out how the elevations compare to our training route here in Manhattan. it is indeed along the coast. Breathtaking views for the most part.

seems comparable as far as elevation goes, some hills might be a little longer, but definitely running here we have a good share of difficult climbs. Should be a fun run, unless the weather poses a trick

one never knows, end of April could be dicey

Yes, it can be dicey, especially along the coast. We have been to Ventana to eat many times

and it is a favorite of mine along the coast. Love the views, the service and just the location.

Ventana is amazing....

... we usually stay at Deetjen's, without any net or phone service - we love it

then in the mornings we go to Ventana for a cappuccino, and do the usual "civilization contact" with our laptops.

Nepentha is great to watch the sunset, of course - we make sure to stop there each time.

For this event in April, we will stay at Deetjen's - and they wil have a shuttle service to take us to and from the race. Looking forward to it, it will be a memorable experience!

I actually think I did the weekend 6 without trying - finally back in a cooking mood

Stanley Tucci's Ragu (MUST remember to not use the tomato paste next time - I HATE tomato paste in tomato sauces!!!)

Charro beans and roasting off some fresh locally made chorizo links to either go with it or add into them (need a little more something) and roasting some green onions to go with it (I have some carnitas I bought at the Mexican grocery when I was buying a bunch of stuff the other day but think I am going to do Michael in Phoenix's carnitas in the crockpot tomorrow)

Sort of Portugese Caldo Verde - I got collard greens to go in it and DD is having a fit because she says she doesn't like collards (she's never had them) so I guess one more trip to the store for kale

Karen's Meatloaf from Liz a friend of Richard & Tim's

A Pork/Sauerkraut/Potato/Rice dish I saw on Cookbook Junkie's FB page for share your dishes

Daughter saw the shank bones I used for the ragu and whined that she had never had marrow bones so I got some and think I am going to try and duplicate the ones Ruhlman described that Powder at Lola fixed for him - marrow pushed out of the bone then rolled in flour and fried after a couple of days of brining.

Think I'll also make some Scottish Raspberry Oaties and My Special Indian Spiced Zucchini Bread.

How far is Pacific Grove/Monterey from where you'll be? You should check out my

buddy Jeff's restaurant. (He's the one whose cookbook just won a big award and he just picked up another award from the folks at Edible.) Super nice guy. If you go, let me know and I'll make an introduction.

It's about 35 miles; Sally I'd come see you, but the road will be closed for the race.

Also, I may be in LA...that's the weekend my sister and I share a birthday, but have fun. The weather should be great save maybe some fog. As much as we need it, I doubt it will rain. Rarely does that time of year.

Very sweet of you! It will be really hard to drive that day (more)

plus, since there is also a full marathon at the same time, the road will be close for many hours, including time before the race starts and after, so that they can be sure everyone is off the road

looks like some of us got our cooking mojo back after the holidays! My weekend 9

Made a huge vat of Italian Wedding soup, with broth from a giant hambone that work had at Thanksgiving and I confiscated to the freezer. It's lovely!
Baked some oatmeal/coconut/pecan/cinnamon chip bars starting with a bag of sugar cookie mix that I had leftover from some quick xmas baking. they are superb. everyone wants the recipe and I have to sheepishly admit to the mix, but they were d@!% good!
Chili with turkey and sweet potato chunks on Saturday. Oh so good and a bit different. we had Boars Head brand old fashioned hotdogs(bought at Alpine Village)and my are they good and snappy!
Fed rye to DH's sourdough and we had sourdough waffles Sunday morning. Just used up some biscuit mix and some Macadamia pancake mix(which we didn't care for but mixed with plain it was just fine) and added a scoop of sourdough to the mix. birch syrup and some Uli's(Seattle) bacon sausage. yummy! and pantry cleaned out a bit.
Alpine Village liverwurst with mushroom----oh how good it is! that was my Sunday evening dinner. We may need someone to go there and buy enough to stuff into a flat rate box and send it to us. that good.
Downton Abbey and a glass of wine, and liking the Mystery after it as well. That Vicar is oh so fine looking! Is that a bad thing???
