The Supersizers Go...

Anyone caught this new program from the BBC currently running on the Cooking Channel?

I absolutely love it!

The premise: British restaurant critic Giles Coren and comedian Sue Perkins supersize their way through the cuisines of different eras in Britain's history.

They adopt the clothes, pastimes, and recipes from the time they're doing: Restoration, Medieval, 50's, Regency, Victorian, Wartime, etc. They present the menu of foods for each meal, taken from the cookbooks of the time. Some of the food is a real eye-opener, as is their reaction to it.

Before and after they get physicals and blood work to see what the diet does to them over the course of the week. For instance, the Restoration episode I just watched, Londoners did not drink water because it would kill them. They also didn't have coffee or tea yet, so they got up and started drinking ale and claret throughout the day.

Absolutely love this show, funny, entertaining, and educational all at the same time.

Thanks Syl. I've tried to view the background clips on the BBC web site...

but I can never get BBC media to play. Wondering if they're blocking in North America for some reason. I never have any issues with the Bayerische Rundfunk out of Munich.

Anywho, the current episode coming up in the UK is creations of Royal Weddings throughout the years and the feasting, excess, and banquets apertaining to. They have several background clips for each episode offering more historical background that I would love to see.
