The Weekend Six

1- Most of the family was down with something right after Christmas - too short-lasting to have been the flu, but was something awful with aches and pains and general lack of appetite. Some good, hot chicken soup with rice and cookies with cocoa seems to be helping.

2- Our Syracuse snow was featured on GMA's national weather news Thursday and Friday. I hear the crew stopped at Dinosaur BBQ before they headed back.

3- I made potato pancakes with pear sauce and sausage for breakfast yesterday... 'decided that I much prefer oniony sour cream rather than "sweet" with my potatoes! 'Never would'a thought that a couple of years ago!

4, 5, 6- I had great intentions to make some roasted fig-blue cheese-bacon w/orange vinaigrette concoction that I stumbled across somewhere. I'd also like to make ham and "Congressional" bean soup with leftover ham, and Dawn_MO's lentil salad to serve with crackers for an appy tomorrow night. 'Just ran out of steam following Christmas, even after I started feeling better. But they will be good for New Years Eve. Happy New Year, everyone!

W-end Six from the islands.

1-Having two days at home is good even though I missed the usual outing and meeting old friends Fri night - the grandies are staying over as their parents are away.
2- Fri-nite; Made lasagna for supper with a center layer of spinach - grandies wanted more smileys/smile.gif
3-Sat-nite Made black beans and rice for supper -just did not cut it with these two. The rice was fine with soya sauce smileys/frown.gif - (anyway DH and DD loved it all smileys/smile.gif )
4-Sat After Chiropractor with DD, newest babe and a grandie we had a late lunch at a veggie restaurant that sometimes has delightful books (no decent bookstore here) and I was delighted to find a book on my wish list "Pomegranates and Roses" - spent today reading this book and made two recipes from it...see if the grandies approve at supper!!
5-Had a great afternoon lurking and writing on Eat.at..catching up with news, eating the last of the cookie swop cookies, playing with the babe and just hanging out. Boiled eggs for egg mousse, defrosting left over turkey for NY turkey and ham pie (grandies request) and playing with the babe - did I say I am in love.
6-Wondering what to do with a whole frozen foie gras for tomorrow night?! Any suggestions?

My cooking Mojo has gone apparently gone south...or at least gone sour.

1. The gluten-free "100% almond meal" pumpkin bread turned out unbelievely BORING.
2. Turkey gravy turned out too salty.
3. Peanut Reese's bars are good, but too sweet to eat a lot (You'd think that would be in the "good' bucket, but right now it's bad.)
4. Over-night steel-cut oats made with eggnog and raisins turned to mush. What happened???? I've made this loads of times and it usually turns out creamy and perfect.

Oh thank goodness! But how long is a spell? Mine has been about

1 1/2 years now. Sure hope it's not to much longer....
