then mixing the chicken sauce mix with white vinegar, sugar, etc. Has anyone made it with the oriental Raman Noodles? It is all I have at the moment and if anyone says it is as good as the chicken base Ramen... I will try it.

Yes! Go ahead - its very good. I make that recipe all the time-beef 'n seafood flavor don't work tho

Karen, I saw your post and decided to make it for our dinner tonight

since I was trying to decide on a salad. I also only had 1 package of the Oriental. My recipe is probably the same as yours, sugar, vinegar, oil and also accent. It was good, but not the same though. Something is different. But perfectly good. It's been a while since I made it and I don't remember the dressing being as dark in color as this was. Probably differences in the seasoning packet.

I also have a few other additions for different twists & main meal

I add shredded chicken, mandarin oranges, apples and trying to think of what else but these are things I have tried with good results. OH - dried fruits like raisins, cranberries

Interesting comments, especially turning it into a main meal....I love the chicken idea

will be great for hot summer nights. Thanks all!

Oh yeah, dried cranberries or cherries are good in it...I like the fresh apple/oranges/chicken idea!

So the ramen noodles get crushed and mixed into the salad greens? Is that correct?

Do they soften up in the dressing?

I'm picturing raw, uncooked pasta in a salad, and I'm wondering how this works.

Thanks,

Michael

Michael, the ramen noodles and almond are dry toasted in a pan.

Sesame seeds are also called for but I hate them and leave them out. Noodles are broken up before toasting with almonds. You cannot add the noodles and nuts until you mix up the salad with the dressing, then toss in noodles and nuts, toss to mix then serve. Best eaten when made as noodles get very soft the next day.

They are more the texture of a cashew when raw...

toast them up and you will want to eat them right out of the pan smileys/smile.gif
Try it....you'll love it!

Other brands have more flavorful dry Ramen (like snacking on chips). I usually

skip this step. The salad is durable and lasts well a couple days if you don't add them.

The Ramen noodles are a different breed Michael....when the salad dressing is added

they soak up some of the liquid and become softer while still having a delightful crispness. The salad needs to be eaten the same day as I said, or just add noodles to what you will eat. Salad holds well to the next day, except for the noodles. They are still edible, just a different texture. This is an old recipe and was given to me by a police investigator. I did a fund raiser for our local police while working there....we raised over $ 10,000 with the cookbook. Even the K-9 officers submitter recipes! LOL!

Plus, ramen noodles are fried before packaging so the are essentially

cooked before you add them to liquid. That's why they are so high cal.
