Have you noticed that Curious doesn't whine like you and I do? Well,

I'm glad I have you to moan with. I've been ashamed ever since Cyn's post this am. So I fixed that! I just didn't look at her post anymore while I turned the heater up! Ha!

we had 36---above---today in Anchorage. heat wave. we're blowing that arctic air down south alright

Sandy is Loling because she knows I do a LOT of complaining. My house has high ceilings and lots

of tile and marble and I'm not a happy camper the last couple of winters. It's cold in here! Heat pumps just don't cut it. I have great sympathy for all those with the way-cold temps, I couldn't take it.

She's right, I hear it ALL the time.... LOL! My blood has thinned SO much since moving down from

chilly Philly two years ago.

Heck, I miss the lizards that usually greet me when I come home! - what-the-hey??!

We are in the low teen here outside DC. We get the edge of all the storms..

heading north bringing in the cold air--but---NO SNOW!!! If it's gonna be this cold then there should be a lot of snow too, isn't that a rule somewhere! Can you upstate NYers send some down please???

Heat pumps can only handle about a 20 degree difference, according

to the tech that came to us in Harpers Ferry when we were trying to keep the "red light" from coming on during the blizzard of '96. We had lived overseas for the 27 years previous and had never had central heat or air conditioning, so it was all a frustrating mystery to us. I had been raising the temp on the thermostat into the "red zone" and couldn't figure out why I was paying a fortune for electricity when I had a "heat pump". Who knew? That's one reason we moved to Texas. Unfortunately, we don't even have a heat pump, just electric forced air. I keep it at 65 and hope for the best.

Tile IS cold! I wanted to install underfloor heating for the tiled areas, but was told that in TX as soon as your floors warm the house the ambient temp outside is in the 80s and you're miserable with the excess heat! You just can't win!!@

My sympathy, I've been to Hawaii once, the place we stayed didn't have glass windows, just shutters.

But it was delightful and I loved falling asleep to the sound of the surf.

Summer arrived in the San Francisco bay area about a week ago, it's been mid to high 60s. Wild, but

wonderful and it's been fabulous taking long day hikes...across the Golden Gate bridge and into the Marin headlands for a picnic overlooking the bridge and ocean, strolling Stinson beach and soaking up the sunshine sitting on the warm sand, a hike through the redwoods in Muir Woods, walking through the wine country, and fun outside lunch dining with girlfriends. Even stood in line for ice cream a few days ago (Bi-Rite Creamery for those of you who know how incredibly phenomenal their ice cream is and how worth the wait in line it is....am-azing ice cream!!!). Kinda surreal, this January weather we're having (especially compared to other areas of the nation), but we're taking full advantage of the great weather while it's here.

Nights still get chilly though so it's still soup and stew and comforting-braised-dish weather. smileys/wink.gif
