I used my Calimyrna figs and didn't cook them with the shallots and fennel but put them raw on top of the pizza. Also I made a much thinner crust.
Later we used the same combo to top bruschetta(minus the fennel which we ran out of) It would have been better had I not been multi-tasking and scorched the edges.
