Basically, if you bought the brackets (rather than make them as shown in the instructions), all you would need to do is cut 3 holes out of piece of wood. The diameter of the hole matches the diameter of a potted plant/herb BELOW the rim...so the rim sits ON the board, while the rest of the post hangs BELOW the board.
You can swap out potted plants all day long if you wanted to.
