what do YOU use it for. I mean I know what its purpose is, but what (besides whole dill seeds, last night) can you use it for?

Chimichurri sauce! And a fun memory of having lunch w erin, sandra and richard... Guacamole! The

waiter prepared it at the table! YUM! My big take away was the technique on preparing, ie do not over blend.

I missed it on your sat six! Have fun with it!

Grinding garlic/chile/spice pastes for indian food or latin food

As for the guacamole, the ones they use for that are more properly a molcojete which is bigger & coarser than a traditional mortar & pestle and are frequently made with basalt which makes for a rougher surface. They are also used to make salsas

Aioli or other garlic sauces. It's the best way to puree the garlic, and the perfect serving bowl.

I love cumin and roast it in a small frying pan and hand grind for to put in my. . .

chile con carne and stuff. Like to grind large amounts of black pepper in it. Grind my home-grown and dried oregano too.

I used it to make garlic herb pastes for meats, esp. pork roasts.

I put some garlic cloves, olive oil, salt and whatever herbs in it and crush to a paste, them rub it on the meat to marinate before roasting or grilling.
