This sounds amazing - Jean Negro's Coffee Cake (Mom's Brunch Treat Differs From Traditional Cake)

This sounds very similar to the "Breakfast Puff" in the old Betty Crocker...

we've been making this for 40 years in my family. And it is totally decadent. Makes a great holiday morning treat for the brunch table.

Have you ever posted the recipe, Richard? Would love to have it...

Might make for my lady friends sometime. Thx

This one, with the almond extract, is the one from my childhood...

which was WAY before the 2002 date in the recipe. I was trying to remember where this was from when my sister was here in January and never could. Thanks very much for posting this.

The recipe in the link is one and the same. Betty calls it "Danish Puff"

We got this out of the late 60's version of Betty Crocker's cookbook.

And I have to add a note about Betty's "Did you know" at the bottom of the page on the link:

We DIDN'T know, since Betty just completely made this up to tie Denmark to the word "Danish" and come up with some filler for her cutesy "Did you know" section in her recipe files.

What's all this hang-up about Danish from Denmark? The Danes call them Wienerbrot (Vienna Bread)- true testimony to their origin.

A relative newcomer to Scandinavia, Wienerbrot arrived in Denmark following a row between the Danish government and the bakers of Copenhagen who reckoned they were being underpaid. The hapless artisans eventually found themselves out on their ear and their jobs were given to outsiders - Austrian craftsmen brought in from Vienna. --Nigel Meadows Sales director, Vandemoortele (UK) Ltd

Caveat emptor y'all.

I wouldn't. The joy of these are hot out of the oven plus...

the icing wouldn't hold up. YOu could try freezing some with no icing, or just make half the recipe.

Or invite some people to brunch and make the full blown version. : )

Thanks, Richard. That's what I was afraid of. I do like your last suggestion.

Brunch is such a civilized way to entertain.

I love it! I've been censored by Betty Crocker (aka Gargantuan Corporate Machine)!! ROFL...

I posted a review on the Danish Puff recipe at Betty's page, noting that I thought the recipe was very tasty and gave it a 5 "spoons" ratings, but noted that Betty's "Did you know" was factually incorrect.
