I have finally, finally, included a note in the recipe to myself that says: yes, its really is done at 40 minutes and even if you put foil on it it still gets too dark if you wait till 50 minutes (take it out of the oven!) let alone the 65 minutes it claims to take. I don’t know how many times in a row. I’ve made this pie and gotten it too dark, at least three years in a row. At 40 minutes I checked on it and it was beautiful and you could see all the leaves and the acorns that I made and covered the pie with, but not now. I hope it’s not dry. However, I am bringing ice cream to go with.
