old blender is not cutting it. I think I have used my blender 1x/year for Dawns gazpacho. ds uses it all the time; his friends have fun at hangout w/ their fancy drink. Mine needs to be replaced.

Thoughts on brand? Anyone you love?

Best,Barb

I just bought a Nutri-Bullet

deluxe set with 2 clear blender jars and 1 metal insultated jar (I think they are quart sized) at Marshall's for $40. I LOVE IT!!! It makes the most amazing work of slushy drinks, smoothies, even ice creams out of frozen bananas/cherries, etc. There are recipes for puddings, Thai peanut sauce, ice cream, etc. in the recipe book that came with it. Can't beat the price. Check the discount places for similar.

You and I use a blender about as much==you can buy a LOT of $30 blenders before a Vita mix

is the "thing" you "need".
I use my stick blender ($15) more than my $30 (maybe $15 now!) blender.
I bought one like richard mentioned also--gonna give it to my college grandchild, but maybe it would be something you'd like.

CR or CI Ratings

I can't remember if it was Consumer Reports or Cooks Illustrated but I was surprised to see that the NutriBullet was very highly rated and definitely a good buy. I have a VitaMix and I like it but don't use it as much as I thought I would even though it sits out on the counter.

I also have a Vitamix that works a lot better than any blender I've owned. But after

reading Richard's Ode to Nutri-Bullet, I give pause before recommending spending $300+ if that product will do the trick.

I use my V to make puddings, lovely lemon curd, soup, butters and smoothies, but I don't have the dry blade to grind flours, which is something I thought I'd use it for.

A former coworker with the body of a GOD is a vegetarian who used his Bullet every day for breakfast. One day he brought in a load of frozen bananas and let anyone in the office make a smoothie. Fun guy!

Legal Disclaimer: Owning a Nutri-Bullet does not imply or suggest in any way that said product will automatically provide a God-like body. You will also have to go to the gym 6 days a week for a 90-minute workout with weights.

I looked to see if mine is still available but it isn't

Twenty years or more ago I was fed up with burning up cheap blenders. My parents bought me a pro/bar model Osterizer with a stainless steel jar for Christmas. It weighs a ton and would probably puree rocks.

Definitely. When you look at the cost of VitaMix vs...

NutriBullet. Amazing. I paid $40 for the deluxe set and I am as happy as can be. The old blenders never quite captured the ice, the banana, or whatever when one was trying to make a smoothy. NutriBullet? Pulverized Frozen fruits in a smoothy? No chunks thank you very much.

We had the Osterizer too. And it was ...

a great blender. The blender jar died on the floor and we were without blender and limped along with several band aids.

Truly, Nutri-Bullet does it. I could not be happier. And so cheap vs. Vitamix!

Truly. I've had friends with the full Vitamax...

grinding grains (and how often does one need to do that?). But the cost!!! NutriBullet is doing amazing smoothies if that is what you are looking for a fraction of the price (especially when you buy the deluxe set at Marshall's for $40).

Marilyn!! We went to Port Jefferson on Long Island to visit my MOM. (the graduate secretary at Stony Brook University who adopted me when I was a motherless student). We came in after a fun day on the beach, I went upstairs, came down, it was May 8th, my birthday, and I thought no one was going to make a fuss. There was a chocolate birthday cake, a quart of Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream and Marilyn's fudge and caramel sauces!!!

We totally demolished your chocolate and caramel.

Belated Happy Birthday, Richard! Glad the sauces worked out for you. To be

...honest, I don't like how the caramel hardens when it hits chilly ice cream. My favorite take on it? Warm up the caramel just a tad, dip slices of juicy crisp apples in it and then dunk that in chopped roasted peanuts. In one fell swoop, I get calcium from the dairy, fiber from the apple and protein from the nuts. It's a veritable healthy snack!

I can do denial like nobody's business.
