Tijan Seasoning versus Trader Joe's Chili Lime Seasoning

When I went looking for Tijan (I just knew I would never find it here in Redding) I first checked on Amazon for it. The reviews were amazing but the price put me off. Then, I discovered Amazon also sold the TJ's seasoning in a two pack. The reviews on both are great but Trader Joe's claims they came up with their own version and theirs is better. My TJ's order arrived last night.

Today, while shopping at Safeway, I was looking around and my eyes spotted a familiar small jar, down on the very bottom shelf in sort of a dark area, it was Tijan! Of all things to find it at Safeway!

So I came home and cut up 1/2 a mango and put each on a few slices. I was interrupted by three phone calls, a husband, a barking dog, and another phone call. I forgot which slice has which seasoning, so the verdict is still out.

Tajin is an acquired taste. I like fruit/melons/etc. straight up... no embellishment.

Tajin is high in sodium. I taste mostly salt, but that might be my 55 year old taste buds.

I wouldn't pay a high price for it, but my son would.

I tried Tajin for the first time last weekend on some roasted cauliflower - I got a big hit

of intense lime, then heat. I guess I am not much of a fan of the sweet/sour thing, though I do like spicy/sweet.

They have had it on sample at my grocery store in the produce department recently as well.

I tried it again this morning on slices of mango. The Tijan was a bit smoother

with a nice tang and a little more heat than TJ's Chili Lime. They are so close in taste that it does not make much difference, although I did find I enjoyed the residual heat on my tongue from the Tijan.
I put the TJ's in my morning drink of Knudsens Very Veggie juice, a cube of fresh frozen lemon juice, a wedge of lime and hot sauce. It was great.
Think I will experiment with scrambled eggs in the morning.and on tomatoes and cukes for lunch today. It should be great on fresh tomatoes.
For me, Tijan was not an acquired taste as Michael said. I loved it right away. Some people say it is too strong. I say, it is not something you pile on the food. Just use a sprinkle of it and let it sit a few minutes. It seems to bloom if you do that.
