Tip: When making cookies, do not confuse cayenne pepper and cinnamon. Urgh.

Reminds me of my sister when she was first married, she use tartar sauce in lieu of cream of tartar

She wanted to bake snicker doodle cookies and used the tartar sauce for fish instead.

I have to hand it to my awesome brother in law, he ate those cookies but its hysterical to hear his rendition of how those cookies really tasted, he created new words for awful, but I saw him as an awesome new husband. After 23 yrs of marriage he is still a great husband to my sister.

Those cookies must have been the grossest on the planet.

Yeah, it's ok when it's planned...

Steve, it's not bad when you plan it, but to have one in place of the other, would be bad. I'm happy I did NOT use the cayenne and realised what I was doing (tasting the spice to make sure it was fresh...)

FWIW, I have this recipe for chocolate and chili cake that is rather yummy smileys/smile.gif

My mother did this once when I was a child. Once. ha

She made homemade cake doughnuts and was sooo proud of them. She dropped the freshly fried pastries into a bag in which she had placed what she thought was cinnamon sugar. Yikes!

We laughed about it for years! She died in 1988 at age 54 and I hadn't thought about this in years. Thanks for the great memory!! smileys/smile.gif

Hi Marilyn - yeah...we laughed and told that story for years....

You know how it is....OH NO, HERE IT COMES AGAIN! We had a lot of fun with my mom when we were kids. She was young and playful and really made things fun for my brother and I.

It was my mom who first tasted her doughnut. I still remember the look on her face. I must have been around 7 years of age.

I guarantee, she never did that again!

How funny! Reminds me of a story about a gal who used 2 B in our now defunct neighborhood luncheon

group. We used to have had a pitch-in each month so it was an excellent opportunity to try out new recipes on one another.

Katie had spotted a cheeseball recipe in a recently assembled and publisheded church fund-raiser cookbook which she tried out one time, many years ago. Not being a very experienced cook, she made the cheeseball EXACTLY how the recipe was printed--and it called for 1/4 CUP of garlic salt(!) -- obviously a misprint and meant to be 1/4 tsp to anyone having any familiarity with that ingredient.

The first few of us who tasted Katie's cheeseball didn't say a word to her, but merely indiscreetly warned others to steer clear. Katie finally got around to trying a big scoop of her own cheeseball on a cracker and let loose with a loud expletive. Her reaction was hysterical and that episode remained a popular luncheon group anecdote for several years! I can still see the look on Katie's face as all that garlic powder hit her tastebuds. The rest of us were doubled over with laughter.
