I've made the original version of these from Alice Medrich. It looks like the adapted recipe would

work better, since Smitten increased the dough and used only white sugar instead of a mixture of white and brown. When I did the original, the dough was impossible to work with - even after chilling overnight. I sliced them by 1/8 inch instead of 1/4 inch.
