To paraphrase Julius Caesar’s “Veni, vidi, vici” [I came, I saw, I conquered], Capt. A.R. Perfecto...

She sawed.

Select a kitchen drawer. Cut 2 or 3 pieces of wooden 1/4” dowel* the width of the drawer.

Cut 2 pieces of heavy cardboard the full length and height (minus 1/2”) of the drawer.

Draw a line down the middle of the length of the cardboard.

Place “X Marks the Spot” every 4 inches.

Use a sharp object (X-acto, Wustholf paring knife, bitter memories, box-cutter **) to pierce the cardboard at the Xs, then place the dowels in the cardboard, ladder-like. (see link)

If necessary, place small pieces of cardboard (shims) behind the dowels to tighten the fit.

*The wider the drawer, the thicker the dowel should be. If the drawer is more than 18”, use 5/16” or 3/8” dowel. A long piece of1/4” will eventually bow from the weight.

**Disclaimer: Not responsible if Homeland Security bursts into your kitchen and confiscates said box-cutter.

She solved.

Left-brain dominant: organize spice jars alphabetically, with subgenus of sweet spices and savory herbs.

Right-brain dominant: organize in an artistic yet stimulating manner.

Spatially dominant: organize tallest to smallest, reserving a special spot for that exorbitantly expensive saffron.

Willem de Kooning dominant: leave them messy.

Dominatrix dominant: Push the spice jars around with a leather whip.

Is there something wrong with alphabetizing? Does that mean...

I am a**l retentive? I"ve already been called a 'repository of useless information' at work by the new girl so one more title won't hurt. smileys/smile.gif

Does anyone know of an online site to buy small spice jars?

We buy many of our spices out of bulk bins, and therefore have tons of tiny baggies of spices filling up our spice drawer. We've been on the lookout for a better way to store them, but have not found anything yet. We need something that's smaller than your typical spice jar, say half the size or a quarter of the size if it exists...

Excellent! Are you selling these as a kit? I could use one or two... smileys/wink.gif
