Toaster report....

After shopping more than several places, looking for deals, coupons, etc, my shopping buddy (who also wanted a new toaster for her husband) & I bought toasters. She got an Oster, I bought a Cooks (Penney's store brand---wonder who makes this, anyone here know?)

Gave to E for his birthday. Made first piece of toast today and tower of smoke the like of which only Moses has experienced, arose from the little beast & caused the smoke alarm to go off. After hitting the cancel button MULTIPLE times, the rectangular piece of charcoal rose up. Should I get out the receipt or give this little carbonator a second chance????

I'd check the settings and make sure you didn't have it set on 'carbonator'. If the settings were

normal then I'd quickly return that puppy to the store.

We recently bought a new toaster, but it was Brand X - a store brand for $9.

I used the middle setting, and it immediately burned the toast. I've had to turn it almost completely down to the low end, and now it works fine. Took a few tries to find the right place.

If you can't adjust your toaster, I'd take it back.

Sounds like a fire hazard to me. I'd take it right back!

It does get a couple of good reviews, though! Maybe it was just that particular one.

A friend told me last night that's how her kitchen caught fire last year. The toaster went

berserk and caught the cabinets on fire. She had popped some bread in to toast then went back to the bedroom to finish getting dressed for work then suddenly she smelled something burning and the smoke alarm starting blaring. She dashed back to the kitchen and half the kitchen was on fire. Yow!

EEK! ANd my husband just asked me why I always pull the toaster out from directly under

the cabinets everytime I make toast....

BTW second atempt at toast, turned down to lowest setting also carbonized

and caused the smoke alarm to go off. At least I know THAT works!
That sucker-toaster goes back to the store!!!!

I walked through my aunt's kitchen one day and the toaster oven was on fire -- she wasn't even using

it!!! I always unplug mine now, the coffee maker too.
