Today I was at the Farmer's Market and ran into a friend who is a very good cook

We were discussing Thanksgiving foods and she told me she uses Trader Joe's boxed turkey gravy, claiming it is very good. It is one of her shortcuts for such a large dinner. Has anyone here tried that gravy, what do you think of it?

Williams-Sonoma has a turkey gravy base that was all the rage a few years back. I bought some...

...and was under-whelmed.

My issue with such products is that my father-in-law makes a turkey gravy that is absolutely my standard of excellence. It is simple, but intensely flavorful. I've watched him make it and I still can't duplicate it.

I guess I'm going to have to pay even better attention next time.

Haven't tried the TJs version.

Let us know, please.

I read the reviews on it and they were not very good. It is really a matter of tastes.

I read a review from Serious Eats. They tested several and Heinz Turkey Gravy came out on top. I used that product years ago, and at that time found it decent. I usually added it to home made gravy because sometimes I needed extra. The second place was Campbells, which had a decent review also. Trader Joe's and Williams-Sonoma did not make the cut.

Sampled the gravy at TJs last week and thought it was pretty

decent. They were also sampling the corn pudding and fresh cranberry sauce and I was surprised how good both of those were -- both tasted so fresh and every bit as good as what I make from scratch. I recommended the corn pudding and cranberry sauce to an elderly neighbor who is no longer physically able to spend a lot of time in the kitchen preparing meals yet wants serve food that tastes great.

Just sampled TJ's String Bean Casserole, made with their Condensed Cream of Mush. Soup. . .

And it was very, very good. The person demoing the stuff said that the recipe was on the side of the box of condensed soup. Called for 24 oz Green Beans, Box of soup, French Fried Onions (their brand) and swiss cheese. I liked it a LOT. Will be making this recipe this year, but with the addition of crisply fried smoked jowl bacon. Should be good. . .

Have you tried the Kringle-crack that's only available around the holidays? Ohhh! Myyy! Dangerous

to have in the house, I tell ya. Addictive!!!
