That brings back fond memories.I no longer have a cat but used to leave
empty shipping boxes in the floor for weeks because the cat enjoyed them so much. When one of the dogs I had years ago who had gotten very old didn't seem to enjoy playing anymore I used to hide sections of newspaper for her behind the bedskirt. She never got too old to stop loving shredding paper.
