I have a coffee table with a plant on it. I suddenly saw smoke coming from the table. Yelled for husband and jumped up. I had an old snow globe from Germany on the table. The sun was hitting it just right to act as a magnifying glass and started the LIVE PLANT on fire! We had just gotten home. If we had stayed out longer I might have lost the house.

Just a warning.

 
Kinda like using a magnifying glass to burn up bugs or grass or leaves

(Not that my Dad taught us how to do things like that...) I'm so glad you were home.

 
What a scare! Told dh the story, and he commented that not only you were home, but also happened

to be in your LR sitting by the plant. Very fortunate!!!

We are especially saddened / sensitive to fires after learning about the terrible tragedy in CT. Fire alarm batteries are being replaced tomorrow.

Glad everything worked out OK.....

 
Bizarre !! THere needs to be a place to post this to more. I'm sure we all notice this

sort of thing happening outside in the summer but who woulda thunk?

 
Somewhat scary, to say the least. Glad it all turned out OK.

 
That's what I thought, Marg. How many times have you read of a

house burning down and they say the cause of the fire is unknown!

 
This is incredible! Who would have ever thought a freak accident like this could occur?

I am so relieved that you were home to respond to this. The alternative is frightening.
