Totally NFR: Can anyone help me with info about Grand Canyon Helicopter Tours?

Jacques doesn't know this yet, but we will be taking a trip through the desert in June with friends who are coming from Paris to surprise him for his birthday. They want me to book a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon but there are so many listed online that I'm overwhelmed. Also, they all seem to originate in Las Vegas rather than the park. Jacques is usually the one who does this kind of research, and it doesn't help that I have to do it in secret. (It also doesn't help that Jacques is scared of heights but I'm hoping peer pressure will get him onto a helicopter.)

Has anyone done this and if so are there any recommendations? Thanks!

We did this last year and it was amazing - highlight of the trip!

We took one called Maverick that left from the South Rim. I think it was the Spirit tour. It lasted about 45 minutes, and I really recommend it.
Leave yourself some time for the reservation. Don't do it on your last day, because they sometimes have to cancel flights due to high winds or bad weather. Also, you may want to take dramamine. It is a pretty calm flight, but over the canyon it can get a little bouncy. My husband tends to get air sick, and he felt a little bad even after taking dramamine. I took it, and didn't have any problems.

What a thrill! We took my parents on the plane trip that also left from the South Rim. None of us

with any preconditions, (well except my dad's heart) but I think this was one of the last flights that ran....shut down because of potential heart attacks. It was such a thrill. The pilot crept calmly over the treetops where one can see nothing of the canyon ahead and then SUDDENLY just plummeted into the canyon. My dad was a mountain boy and produced the biggest grins I'd ever seen from him, while my mother nearly tore his arm off. I thought it was great but for a split second, worried about my dad's heart. This kind of on-purpose scare was risky for passengers of any age but we all loved it. And the tour of the canyon is spooky, beautiful and one-of-a-kind. Do it. The helicopter sounds like a very calming alternative that shouldn't be missed.

Just a little trip down memory lane and no help with the details, sorry.

Sort of the same thing- Grand Canyon of The Pacific by helicopter

Here on Kauai we have the Waimea Canyon which is a scaled-down version of the Grand Canyon. I've been up over it about 12 times in helicopters and will tell you there is nothing like seeing stuff from the air! Fabulous. I am a concierge at resorts and set many, many flights up each week for people- look for either an Eco Star or Whisper Star helicopter- I suspect most all of the tour companies do the same tour pattern- regulated by the state or feds. If one tour is offered at a radically lower fare deem it suspicious- they all should charge about the same rate if the amount of tour time is the same (of course it depends on where they are flying from too). Jump in and book one. It will be wonderful!
