Totally NFR: I just agreed to let my nephew store the contents of his apartment

in my basement until he finds a house (maybe a year). I've been searching for airtight matress bags with no luck. My basement is heated but after heavy rain there is a musty smell and I don't want his beds to absorb the odor. Do any of you know where I can find them? I've found some that you seal with tape but I'd prefer a sealable bag.

We've had good luck with SpaceBags before, but I don't think they come in mattress sizes.

In case this is of some help, though not really the same thing... When we moved (just within the city) last time, I was so paranoid about somehow picking up bedbugs that I insisted we encase our mattress in two zip bags and then wrap and tape the whole thing before it left our old apartment. Maybe one of the (non-airtight) bedbug-proof zip bags would work for the year?

There's a risk of mold developing (just from the mattress itself) if you seal it entirely airtight for a long period (according to the Internets!).

It is also dangerous to seal a used mattress in an airtight bag.

Mattresses need to breathe. Otherwise they will develop a "pong" of their own.

I would suggest storing his mattress in a breathable bag, under a bed. Takes up a ton of space, I know, but you risk ruining it the other way.

Didn't know that. Maybe I'll have to lean them againts walls in the house.

Does that go for fabric furniture, too? OMG I won't be able to move around in my own home!
