totally NFRC - a word of caution for our talented ladies...

I've hesitated to mention this on the swap but I think all the women should know and better protect themselves. Monday afternoon, 6/12, I was in a local supermarket. A man stopped and said: "I really like your boots". I said: "thank you, they're very retro" (kinda 70's suede boots, funky). That was about it and I didn't think anything of it cause I always get compliments on the boots. I checked out and drove home, parked into my garage and headed to the curb for my garbage can and the same man pulled up, accross my driveway. Since I'm off the beaten path, I knew he had followed me and not to get too close.

First he said: "nice place, looks like you can use some help". I told him my husband takes care of stuff. He didnt' leave. One of my cats came out and now he tells me he has a kitten just like her and turns his van off. I knew I had to get into my garage and get the closed without him knowing I was about to run. He then tells me he caught fish in the morning, would I llike some fresh fish? He's heading out of the van thinking I'm going to the back of the van. I told him my husband was allergic. By now I was close enough to the gargage to get in and get the door closed.

A week later, I went back to supermarket thinking the manager might recognize him from my description. We went upstairs and looked at the security video and it was chilling.

Girlfriends, pay attention when you are out. If you think you're being followed, don't go home, get to someplace public and safe and call for help. I'm an ex NYC gal and I guess I lost my "edge". It won't happen again. Please, be very careful and take care of yourselves. It looks like ya never know and certainly, I didn't see it coming.

big hugs and be safe

Randi, thanks for posting this. We have a new one in our area. A few people (m)

approach women in the shopping parking lots and ask them what kind of perfume they are wearing. Then they ask them if they would like to smell the kind they have on a cloth, that they have in their hand. It is not perfume, it is some kind of knock out drug. They then drag them into a car and G-d only knows what happens. I have been getting e-mails from several of my friends warning us. It's pretty bad when we cannot even go shopping in safety anymore. I have become so paranoid lately.

Frightening. Glad you shared this it's easy to be complacent, thank goodness you're safe.

You really need to contact the police dept. You can provide them with

a description of the man the vehicle and the method. I say this only because of something that happened in my town and it would have helped several women if the suspicious acts had been reported.

Yes, the police department should have been notified immediately

when she went in the house. I found a guy in my back yard one time, told him to leave, and then an hour later thought "Duh, I should call the police". Did and they were not happy that Ihadn't called immediately.

As my son (he's a cop) says "always be aware of your surroundings". Glad you're okay and contact

the police so you can give them a description of this perv.

Glad you're safe Randi. Get the police involved and have them step up...

...the patrols in your neighborhood.

Since this kook knows where you live, a stronger police presence could act a as a deterrent to any further contact.

Peace,

Michael

that was the first thing I did ........

I called dispatch instead of 911 as he had already left. couldn't get a plate number. called police again on Sat. as he drove by.

When I went to the market on Monday, it was obvious that he has a fetish and it was all about the boots. Lyle printed out a picture of him, told me to take it to the police station as he was wearing all new, expensive, sports fishing gear. I found at the station that there hadn't been a formal report but the officer came in and took the photo.

By Thurs I was getting concerned the police weren't doing a background check. I had Lyle print me out a photo and burn me a CD of the "incident". Sat. I took the photo to the bay front and found out he had just bought a commercial fishing boat but the marine supply place couldn't remember which one.

OK, it's a small fishing village and he is easy enough to track down. Still nothing from the police I called a woman detective at the sheriff's dept. yesterday. Told her everything and she couldn't find a report from the police. She called some "higher-ups" at the dept. and they were concerned that there were no reports filed.

I think the police need to do a background check on him and see if he has a record. If my boots aroused him so much he had to follow them home, with me in them, he is unpredictable and therefore dangerous. I'm worried that the next pair of shoes or boots might be worn by a young girl who wouldn't realize she was in danger.

(sorry, hit the key) - New Yorker and was on the alert when I was....

approached and not very trusting. I contacted the police after my incident, however, he was never found.

Randi, I'm so sorry to hear of this incident but am glad you're safe. Police should have

been called, for your safety at home.

I used to work at the police department and am just amazed at all the people in my neighborhood that see things going on in and they approach the person themselves. We should always call the police if we anything suspicious and let them find out who the person is and why they're where they are.

woooHOO 18 days later and finally an officer was sent to talk with..

me. first I explained what happened and then showed him the security video... his jaw dropped! they are running an immediate check on him and will let me know by tomorrow afternoon. he was very concerned by what he heard and saw.

I can finally take a deep breath. first I was terrified then it turned to anger and I knew I would make this pervert wish he had never seen those boots! what threw me over the edge is it's almost county fair time here and there will be girls and women all over town in boots of all kinds. all I have been able to think of is the young ones, innocent and not suspecting danger.

I want to thank all of you for your kind words. Mimi's is so much like the swap I knew and loved and I'm grateful for all the old and new friends.

I'm also grateful for the silly pills everyone musta taken. the posts were a hoot & a half and got me laughing when I was a nervous wreck. now I'm going to open a bottle of wine, kick back and try to keep the new kitten out of trouble
