I always tip when I have furniture delivered but I'm never sure how much. I've checked various sites on how much to tip and found answers from $0- don't tip on deliveries except for food- to have several ten dollar bills on hand- one for each person- to "If a normal delivery charge in your area is 30-50, then that's what the tip should be".

I do think that tipping has gotten out of hand - the tip jar at the convenience store for clerks who are checking you out- but I think I'd feel cheap if I didn't tip for delivery.

What do you folks do?

Hi Cyn, We usually tip the delivery guys. We have had great luck with our

recent deliveries. The guys are usually very hard working, considerate of your home and very polite. I guess we would, on average, give them $10 each and there are usually two for such deliveries. In the summer when its really hot I usually give them each a big bottle of cold water or gatorade too, whichever they prefer.

Last year when we replaced our well worn and very faded 20+ year old living room furniture, one of the new chairs came off the truck with a broken leg. The guys had me come out and look at it before bringing it in to decide on repair or replace. They put it back on the truck and called in the replacement order from their truck! They were great.

I have worked in retailing all my life and know had hard these guys work, they really appreciate the tips.

Just my humble opinion............

Barbara's on the money, so to speak...

I used to sell furniture and talked to the delivery guys about tipping once. Although they don't expect it they really appreciate it, especially if they go above and beyond like moving big pieces of your existing furniture around.

Unless they're rude or don't treat your house and furniture well (which is rare with reputable companies) I'd give them about $10 each.
